Q: All of my other genuine Canon Lens Hoods have a black felt like material inside, this one is painted flat charcoal? Did they change designs?

The shades without the felt are made for the stm lenses the felt shades. Are still made but the for the good metal mount lens not the plastic mount

Specifically, it goes on the EF-S 10-18mm F4.5-5.6, which is a lens that works on the T7i. If you do not have this lens then this would not work for you. Not likely. Canon lens hoods are always made specifically for dedicated Canon lenses. Most Canon lens hoods aren't even interchangeable from one Canon lens to another.

I think this is smaller overall. I don't suggest using anything but the intended hood for any lens, as they are engineered specifically to work with the size of the front elements as well as its shape.. The 18-135mm uses Lens Hood EW-73D. I would recommend something cheaper than the Canon version, like a promaster. It's all just plastic.
