My new vitamin c serum!
I have used a couple different vitamin C serums previously and after researching more, I found out they did not have L-asorbic acid nor the ferulic acid. I have several products from the prequel line and if you watch any of Dr. Ellis’s posts, she explains why she includes certain ingredients and the best percentages of that ingredient to work most effectively without excessive irritation. I have had no irritation using this. Yes there is a smell, this is normal and present in several other more expensive brands with similar ingredients, it’s not a deal breaker for me and after about 15 minutes I don’t even notice it. My product was a pale yellow. I’m thankful no artificial scents are added to make it smell more pleasant. I like the pump, I squirt it into my hand, pat my hands together and evenly pat on my face. It does have a thinner consistency and has a slight oily feeling at first but soaks in quickly and does not leave my face oily or sticky. It leaves my skin with a nice glow after.

Poor packaging, and unpleasant smell. 👃
I’ve been impressed with other products from this brand, the half and half moisturizer, the milk peel…but this stuff is awful. A gentle press on the pump provides a handful of product, way more than you need for one face & neck, and the smell is just awful. It stayed sticky on my skin a long time, probably due to applying too much, but even after wiping some off, the smell was very much present. Needless to say, I’m returning this. I hope the company will change the packaging so you can dispense just the amount you need, and if possible, do something about the smell!

Smelly and Liquidy - But Good
Seems like a high quality product. Does not have any fillers or added fragrance. Very important to point out. It smells like a campfire, and that's normal. I had to look it up myself. It has to do with the Ferulic Acid. So just know going in that it will have a very smoky campfire like smell. It is not rancid that is just the nature of it being a low ingredient product without added fragrance. And I can very much understand that some people will not like that. I am giving it a chance because I want to see how the ingredients work with my skin. And it does seem to dissipate over time and it's easy to cover up with another moisturizer on top. Please know this is a very liquidy product so if you go to pump that bottle aggressively it will gush and squirt at you. I very gently dispense the product into my hand. It is more on the liquid runny side and it is a light pale yellow. I also look that up and that's a good sign because it means all the ingredients in it are fresh. Orange-yellow to orange-brown would mean that the ingredients have started to go rancid. I do like the pump bottle better than a dropper, but go gently the first few times using it. I thought those were very important considerations to let purchasers know before they buy it.

Good So Far, But Color Makes Me Curious
I recently started using this Vitamin C serum, so I haven’t used it long enough to speak on long-term results yet. So far, it applies smoothly and absorbs well into my skin without feeling sticky or heavy. The scent isn’t terrible, but it’s also not completely neutral. It has a slightly noticeable smell that isn’t overpowering and fades after application. One thing I did notice is that the serum is a darker color than I expected. That made me wonder a bit about its freshness and effectiveness, since I know Vitamin C can oxidize over time. That said, I haven’t experienced any irritation, and it seems fine on my skin so far.

serum-great; pump-not so much
The serum is light in texture and absorbs into the skin easily with very minimal stickiness. Reviewers who likened the scent to hot dog water were spot on, but it's not a strong scent and fades quickly after applying. I do notice a luminescence on my skin immediately after applying, which is nice. I think it's one of the better Vitamin C serums I've tried and is priced competitively. The pump dispenser is problematic though. The pump itself leaked a bit under the cap during shipment. And I notice additional leaking under the cap when I shake the serum up before dispensing. It also dispenses more serum then needed.

Happy skincare routine
This is my second vitamin c skincare product and I’m glad to say I won’t be switching to another one. Before, I tried a Korean vitamin c cream but didn’t notice any effect from it whatsoever. Prequel has brought me the nicer-quality serum that I need. I love that Dr. Sam Ellis makes this important skincare staple both approachable and affordable. It’s very liquidy so it took me a few tries to get the hang of application. I tried pumping several drops directly onto my face like some people do—but I have sensory issues and dislike that feeling. What I do is make a “cup” with the palm of my hand and pump 1-2 pumps of product into it so it pools. I dip my ring finger to get some of the serum and then apply it in large “dots” onto my forehead, then repeat the finger/dot method for my cheeks, chin, neck and nose. Then I use my fingers to collect remaining product from my palm and use them to rub in all of the “dots” evenly. I have dry skin. In my experience this serum is not sticky or tacky after applied. It feels smooth, plump and nice. The smell is a bit strange but I don’t mind it and it goes away after a few minutes. I usually wait 2-5 mins before applying my moisturizer and sunscreen to let it soak in. I will say you should apply this to bare skin always. I accidentally applied it over some leftover self-tanner lotion on my face and it was extremely itchy and uncomfortable all day. Use it as the first step for daily routine and you’ll be good to go.

Unfortunately, some of the other reviewers were correct...
Hate to give something that would be really great with wonderful ingredients 2 stars, but I should have listened to the other reviewers since I had a similar experience and have initiated a return. I won't be repurchasing this brand of vitamin C but return to my Coxrx and TirTir Vitamin C. I hope Prequel will address these issues. I tried to order off their website, but they wanted $8 to ship out a little bottle of Vitamin C--no thanks. Thing is, if Prequel is going to sell their product on Amazon, then they should make sure the quality is good as it is anywhere else. Bad--The serum was already tinted orange. Yes, the company indicates it can be discolored, but this isn't a light yellow or even a little darker yellow, but an orange tint. I don't trust it enough to use it on my skin. And if it is already oxidizing right out of the box, then it will not last even for the short time I would be using it. Why chance it when my Cosrx or my TirTir vitamin C is ALWAYS clear or maybe the very slightest bit yellow tinge. Bad--As others noted, it's very annoying to have it spray out all over the place so that much of it is wasted. They do indicate this happens with the first few but I did it 3 times and it happened all 3 times -- and beyond that I do not know. Bad--You can't open the container to get out the last bit that may be there -- this is wasteful. Every other serum including vitamin C that I have uses a dropper where when it is almost gone, I can upend the bottle and get the very last of it out so none of it is wasted. Skincare even when inexpensive can add up in costs so using every little drop is important to me. Even tubes can be split open and use what's left -- and you may be surprised at how much product is left in a tube! Semi-Bad--It is very watery. Not the end of the world and not a dealbreaker, but that just makes it runny and difficult to deal with. If that had been the only issue, I'd not have returned it. Okay--I didn't care about the smell - is it pleasant? No, but all vitamin C can have some kind of natural smell due to the ingredients. This, as well, would not have been a dealbreaker had the other issues not been off-putting. Excellent--The ingredients are VERY good--I looked them up on an ingredients tracker and every one of them was a good or great. No bad or worst at all. Which makes this more frustrating as I really liked the ingredients, but couldn't get past the oxidizing look, the consistency, and the spraying and wasting of product. Returning.

Good vitamin c, beware of pump
Seems to work quite well for my skin but warning: do not apply to any broken skin or it burns. Found this out from having a tender nose after a cold 🤧. Was worried it burns but after my skin healed it tolerates it fine. I didn’t notice the smell. Mine is light orange but i don’t think it’s oxidized, if you read the FAQ on their site it’s normal but you do have to use it within a few months of opening. Oh and yea the packaging is kind of crazy, for some reason it blasts out like it’s under pressure. I just push lightly on the pump and it’s not a big issue.
