This cooks-up nice for UL backpacking. Trick is to pre-soak with a little good oil (olive). 15-min pre-soak with olive-oil and it's better than fresh hamburger. Doesn't require perfect heat nor long cooking time (it's pre-cooked and tastes pre-seasoned). Using only a half-oz of alcohol-fuel, quarter-oz of olive-oil, 2oz of this freeze-dried, heat and water to get delicious 8oz hamburger meal. It's the most efficient, light carry-weight, delicious meal on trail. One can lasts a few weeks (14 meals) if one happens to be thru-hiking.

I use Mountain House cooked ground beef to add into many foods - like soups and casseroles to make them better. It tastes great and adds flavor to whatever you put it into. It’s spendy, but it goes a long way. One can last me almost a year. I keep the open can in the freezer to keep it fresh. I bought two, so when I open the second can, it’s time to order more again. I think it’s cost effective since there's so much ground beef in a can. I recommend it…

Use it almost daily and or weekly. When I make soup, we like ours more heart and throw a small handful in and a little goes a long way. Good taste. On the can it says to consume within one week. I took almost one year to eat all of it, stored it at room temperature and it was still good.

These beef crumbles are very convenient. I bring them to a boil in chicken stock, along with dehydrated carrots, then simmer for about 20 minutes, then add instant mashed potatoes at the end. It makes an easy, one-pot, soft stew!

I add this to my spaghetti dry camping meal. Works great for more of a meaty taste/texture to the meal. I do soak it longer than what the instruction recommends. I find that most of these freeze dried foods require longer soaking time to avoid chewy texture.

the product arrived with a large dent in the side of the can, not sure if its any good now for long term storage. apparently the product is not refundable so be aware.
