I picked up this strop to use as part of my regular edge maintenance, and after working it into my routine, I’ve got a solid feel for what it does well. This is a bare leather strop with no rigid backing, which is something to be aware of going in. The leather itself feels good—supple but not overly soft—and it has enough structure to be usable without feeling flimsy. Because there’s no backing, it does require a lighter, more controlled touch to avoid rounding the edge, but that’s just part of the nature of this style. I’m using it without any compound, and it still performs well. It cleans up the edge, improves bite, and helps maintain a smooth cutting feel with just a few light passes. It’s not aggressive, but that’s not the point—it’s more about maintaining than rebuilding an edge. To get a firm surface, I lay the strop on top of my sharpening stone, which sits on its plastic box. That setup gives me a stable, non-slip base and makes the strop much easier to use consistently. I’ve been using it on DC53, 14C28N, and the steel Victorinox uses in their Swiss Army knives, and it performs well across all of them. It responds consistently regardless of the steel, which is exactly what I want in a maintenance strop. Another thing I like is how easy it is to store. It fits right into the same plastic box as my stone, so everything stays together and ready to go. If you’re expecting a firm, paddle-style strop, this isn’t that. But if you understand what a flexible, bare leather strop is meant to do and use a light touch, it works well and fits nicely into a simple maintenance routine. Overall, it’s a straightforward, effective strop that does its job without any fuss.

The pros & cons of this leather. First the pros…. I loved the piece of leather from Beaver Craft the suede side was very nice and couldn’t have worked better for final stage of stropping and polishing my knives. You can tell the leather was meticulously chosen and prepared. After sharpening my knives I hit the smooth side to knock the burr off then I switch to the side side and I use a .5 diamond emulsion to finish to a mirror finish everytime if that’s my goal. I have been around leather all my life growing up as a shoe maker and repairer. Made many trips to Italy to purchase our leather for the shop. Italy produces through their famous tanning processes some of the finest quality leather in the world. Although this leather piece would be graded as average at best in the industry and marketplace it is excellent for what I use it for…stropping. There were a number of flaws in the hide that caused it to look marred but the look did not affect its usefulness. The cons…. Way too small a piece and way overpriced for what you get. Keep in mind I’m grew up with my uncle buying rolls of leather and complete hides. Nevertheless the price is very high. If they sold either a piece twice the size or two pieces of the same price that would be a little more reasonable. We used to throw away left overs by the garbage can full that would easily match the size of this. In all fairness they are marketing to a consumer who doesn’t have access to leather distributors and know in most cases this is all one may need. And so they priced it accordingly. I get it! My final conclusion is if you just need a small strop to hone & finish your EDC’s or kitchen knives you can’t go wrong it’s an excellent piece of leather just a bit high in price.

Works as should

Great for honing a blade to keep it nice a sharp. The included polish was a nice touch too.

Definitely useful and practical but make sure you are careful to not scrape the surface with your sharp edge. You can also make sure to use both sides, the rougher non-smooth side seems to be better for actually removing/stropping, interestingly enough.

Didn’t appear to be double-sided. Seemed to be mounted to on some synthetic material which didn’t matter to me since I attached it to a board as a strop. But l believe it shouldn’t be called double-sided.
