I must say, this reel is impressive for the price point and has been a pleasure to fish with...mostly. I have one minor issue, but others may not have the same issue with these reels that I have had. The reel is very light and ergonomically it feels just amazing in my hand and it is a very smooth casting reel and has plenty of drag to fight larger fish and a real good looking reel too. However, due to the position of the external break dial on the reel and due to the way that I prefer to palm the reel I have noticed that in my particular case after I reel in and land a fish that my palm is turning the break dial and it tends to turn the dial which lowers the break setting to where the spool will speed up on the next cast and it has caused backlashing and line fluffing. I didn't figure the issue out right away so now after I reel in a fish I have to check at the external break dial and make sure it is on the same setting I had it on before and if it happened to turn the break dial and lower the break setting then I must readjust it to where I had it previously. Kind of a pain to have to check it as often as I have to now but otherwise it is a fantastic BFS reel and it can easily cast 1/16 oz jigs with 2 inch curly tail grub trailers and 1/8 finesse crankbaits 25 plus yards. I have landed several 1.5 to 2 + lbs bass with no problems at all. I have it paired up on a Handing Magic L ultralight 6 ft casting rod and it is a magical pairing in my opinion for BFS! I love fishing with this setup. You can get this rod on desertcart for under $40 and it is high quality and a beautiful looking rod too. I highly recommend both products. If you're still riding the fence on getting into to BFS game or you're just now getting into bait finesse fishing with a casting reel and you don't want to spend a lot then this reel is perfect. You can't go wrong. Good luck and land a big one!!! :-) Review: Bad ass little BFS reel...awesome brakes...beautiful little reel - Wow...tiny little kick ass BFS reel...paired with kestrel BFS rod and i tell you that it is one of the prettiest fishing rod reel combos ive ever seen...to boot, this rig is very well built and it will cast a feather a country mile...if you're thinking of jumping into the BFS game, this rig is as good as the highest end rigs at about half the cost...maybe even better...brake system is flawless...fear no crows nest with this reel...set the brakes and forget the brakes...tiny and potent little BFS reel...get one and find out for youself ## Features - PERFECT For FINESSE FISHING - Weighing in at an ultra-light 4.5 ounces, the Kestrel Baitcasting Reel combines feather-light design with rigid performance. The carbon fiber frame and side covers empower anglers to effortlessly cast lightweight baits with extended accuracy, virtually eliminating backlashes. The Palm Perfect Design at 37.5mm ensures a comfortable fishing experience all day long. - SHALLOW SPOOL MASTERY - The Kestrel features an ultra-lightweight shallow feather spool weighing only 5.6 grams. This micro-spool excels at handling smaller diameter lines, perfect for finesse fishing. With minimal effort, the shallow spool accelerates swiftly, enabling anglers to effectively cast lures down to an impressive 1/32 oz. - FINESSE -OPTIMIZED BRAKING - The FAF (Flyout Arc Finesse) Braking system was designed specifically for finesse fishing. Two half-ring magnetic brakes automatically adjust to slow down the spool when braking is needed to prevent backlashes. As the speed of the spool decreases, the magnetic field inside the spool diminishes and the magnets retract to maximize casting distance. There is also an external fingertip brake adjustment dial for fine tuning spool speeds for smaller baits. - SMOOTH And FAST PRECISION - Indulge in an unmatched smooth retrieve with 11+1 MaxiDur Double Shielded Stainless Steel Ball Bearings. Unleash the extraordinary performance of the 7.5:1 and 8.4:1 high-speed gear ratio, a testament to durability with precision-crafted aluminum main gear, brass pinion gear, and aluminum main gear shaft. This Baitcasting reel seamlessly blends smoothness and speed for an exceptional angling experience that stands the test of time. - IMPRESSIVE POWER And CastabILITY - The patented LFTV (Low Friction Tapered Vortex) Line Guide decreases the angle at which the line enters the guide, limiting friction during casts. A straighter line and reduced friction result in fewer backlashes and greater distance on casts, both of which are qualities highly desirable among serious finesse anglers. Experience up to 12 lbs of smooth drag that provides plenty of fish-stopping power and the audible drag clicker also gives you feedback. ## Technical Specifications | Specification | Value | |---------------|-------| | ASIN | B0CMWGZPKR | | Bearing Material Type | Stainless Steel | | Bearing Number | 12 | | Best Sellers Rank | #60,311 in Sports & Outdoors ( See Top 100 in Sports & Outdoors ) #144 in Fishing Reels | | Brand | KastKing | | Brand Name | KastKing | | Color | Gray - Right - 8.4:1 | | Customer Reviews | 4.5 out of 5 stars 179 Reviews | | Fishing Line Type | Monofilament or Fluorocarbon | | Fishing Reel Maximum Drag | 12 pounds | | Fishing Technique | Baitcasting | | Gearbox Ratio | 8.4 | | Hand Orientation | Right Hand | | Handle Material | Stainless Steel | | Item Weight | 5.6 g | | Line Capacity | 4/80, 6/65, 8/50 (Monofilament), 6/215, 8/160, 10/125 (Braided) | | Manufacturer | KastKing | | Material | Aluminum, Carbon, Stainless Steel | | Material Type | Aluminum, Carbon, Stainless Steel | | Model Name | Kestrel Carbon | | Size | Right Hand | ## Product Details - **Bearing Material:** Stainless Steel - **Brand:** KastKing - **Color:** Kestrel Carbon- 4.5oz- Right- 8.4:1 - **Fishing Technique:** Baitcasting - **Gearbox Ratio:** 8.4 - **Hand Orientation:** Right Hand - **Handle Material:** Stainless Steel - **Item Weight:** 5.6 g - **Material:** Aluminum, Carbon, Stainless Steel - **Model Name:** KastKing Kestrel ## Images ![Kestrel Carbon Baitcasting Fishing Reels, Finesse Baitcaster - Image 1](https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/612CGBPKSLL.jpg) ## Available Options This product comes in different **Color, Size** options. ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great BFS reel for the $ *by J***2 on May 9, 2024* I have numerous other bait finesse casting reels and some that cost much more $ than this Kastking Kestrel BFS 2024 reel. For their price, they are as nice a reel as you could ask for. The body is a carbon fiber material, which, along with the fine spool, keeps the reel very light in weight. Click, adjustable drag, and spool tensioning knobs are nice features. The magnet breaking allows the caster to use very lightweight lures while experiencing almost no backlash. The ergonomic shape, lightweight materials, rigid construction, and comfortable non-slip grips all contribute to making this an easy casting reel. ## Frequently Bought Together - KastKing Kestrel Finesse Baitcasting Reel, Ultra-Lightweight, Only 4.5 oz, Easily Cast Lures Down to 1/32 oz, 11+1 Double Shielded Ball Bearings, Available in 8.4:1 and 7.5:1 Gear Ratios - KastKing Kestrel Fishing Rod - IM8 Graphite Blanks, 8 Different Light & Ultralight Casting & Spinning Fishing Rods, 2 & 3 Piece Rods, American Tackle Guides and Custom EVA Handle - KastKing SuperPower Braided Fishing Line - Abrasion Resistant Braided Lines – Incredible Superline – Zero Stretch – Smaller Diameter – A Must-Have! --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - 🛒 **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** — Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** — Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - 💰 **No Hidden Fees** — All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - 🔄 **15-Day Free Returns** — Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - 🔒 **Secure Payments** — Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** — Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.sn/products/614509716-kestrel-carbon-baitcasting-fishing-reels-finesse-baitcaster](https://www.desertcart.sn/products/614509716-kestrel-carbon-baitcasting-fishing-reels-finesse-baitcaster) --- *Product available on Desertcart Senegal* *Store origin: SN* *Last updated: 2026-10-01*
