Emporia Vue 3 Home Energy Monitor - Smart Home Automation Module and Real Time Electricity Usage Monitor, Power Consumption Meter, Solar and Net Metering for UL Certified Safe Energy Monitoring

I've been very happy with the Emporia Vue 3. I use it on a multifamily property where the units share a single utility meter. A few things worth mentioning: • I don't use this by itself for tenant billing. I pair it with a Leviton revenue-grade submeter, which is the meter I rely on for billing. • The Emporia app is the game changer. The Leviton submeter doesn't offer remote monitoring, so the Emporia lets me check each unit's kWh usage from anywhere without having to visit the property. • Accuracy has been excellent. At my tenant's lease renewal, I compared the total kWh recorded by the Emporia with the reading from the Leviton submeter. The readings matched almost perfectly, giving me confidence in using the Emporia as a monitoring tool. • Installation was straightforward. The instructions were easy to follow, and the app made setup quick and painless. • Real-time monitoring is incredibly useful. I can see energy usage as it happens, monitor individual circuits, and quickly identify where electricity is being used. Overall, the Emporia Vue 3 has been a fantastic addition to my multifamily property. If you have a shared utility meter and want an easy way to monitor each unit's electricity usage remotely, this is an excellent solution. Just make sure to follow your local laws and use an approved revenue-grade submeter if you're billing tenants for electricity.

This device is seriously cool and extremely useful if you need or want to monitor your home's energy usage. In my case, I added it to my electrical panel because I finally bought an 11,000 peak-watt inverter generator for backup power and wanted to get a handle on my home's power usage so I could understand what circuits I could turn on while running on generator power alone, as well as monitor generator draw to make sure I was staying within the capability of my generator. Very illuminating and very helpful! I'm not using solar or any other fancy stuff but the device/app would handle that effectively. Easy for a non-electrician to install The app is simple and very useful. I set it up to monitor only the mains in my typical split-phase system, and also put a couple of 50A CT sensors on the 50A circuit breaker where the generator inputs were so that I could monitor the draw on the generator when it was running. It works great for that. The only downside is that if the main power goes down, my wireless internet router goes down too and I lose monitor function. I addressed that by including the computer room (with wireless router) as one of the circuits that the inverter generator powers when the generator comes online. After the wireless router re-boots, I can resume monitoring the generator draw via the Emporia Vue 3 app. You have to remember to re-power the circuit breakers that are supplying power to the Emporia Vue device. Currently, I'm in the process of developing a profile of energy usage by watching the real-time monitor for reaction of the home power when I turn various devices such as water well, furnace, water heater, stove top, microwave, refrigerators/freezers, etc. Very, very helpful.

I liked the quality of the module, the current sensors, and wiring harness. I initially installed the basic unit with just two 200 amp sensors for the main power feed, and ordered a couple of branch circuit current sensors directly from Emporia, as they are not currently listed for sale on Emporia's Amazon Store as of September, 2024. The Emporia iPhone app was easy to install and it was easy to register an account and connect the module to WiFi using the app. I installed in a US residential 200 Amp 240 V / 120 + 120 V 2-phase panel. In this situation the blue wire on the L3 connector terminal serves no function and instructions say to connect it to neutral to make sure it does not touch anything energized inside the panel. Emporia support approved just removing the blue wire from the power connector for this situation. Once module is installed and powered, the un-covered L1 and L2 screws on the wiring connector each have 120 VAC present on them and are a shock hazard same as all the other exposed L1 and L2 power inside the electrical panel, so be sure to power down the breaker feeding the module before handling the module and the power connector of the module. The included WiFi antenna has a water resistant cable bushing to place the WiFi antenna outside the metal breaker box that fits a 1/2" knockout. You have get the WiFi antenna outside the metal breaker box so the WiFi signal can reach your home WiFi network. You'll want to plan where to put the module and antenna before removing a knockout as the cable is only about 6" long and the cable ends next to the antenna and module can't make tight bends. I did not like that all the branch circuit sensor connector opening faces upwards if you mount the module with the labeling right side up, as debris can accumulate in all the un-used sensor connectors. I put a piece of electrical tape across the portion of the opening that does not have branch circuit current sensors connected. Emporia support approved this. I did not like that no cable ties were provided to aid in neat wire routing, you will have to provide your own if you want to use any. Finally, you can look at the photo I posted with the review. The module is fairly large and you may have issues with having enough space in your panel to make it work per the saftey information in the instructions, that require it be located at least 50 mm ( 2" ) from any energized parts such as the L1 and L2 bus bars the breakers are inserted into and their lugs. It's OK to place next to energized insulated cables.

Installation was simple for me because I have experience with electrical systems. The feedback from the device is awesome. I am using it to determine the electrical load for my house as I design a solar and battery storage system. This device allows the user to see how everyday items contribute to the overall electrical use in a home, from making coffee, washing clothes, lighting. It is fantastic!

The monitor works well, and you can pull the detailed data from their monitoring web site (sorry, but that means the data goes to the cloud). The directions were clear and the labels on the CTs about which way to point them were also clear. You need to know what you are doing when working inside an electrical panel or to have a professional do it, but I had no trouble installing them myself knowing my way around a breaker panel. You do need the app to get the module to talk to your WiFi. Would I buy it again? Yes, in fact I did, I now have three of them installed and a friend used one of these and discovered an imbalance in his phase loads.

I am so glad I got this installed in main panel along with another brand EV charger. It already helped me catch spikes in my home usage; was able to fix configuration issues with the EV charger. What I love is the ease of use, graphs and notifications. I will recommend this any day, anytime! Word of caution from my observation: Live view shows instantaneous load and can show sudden spikes. Minute view may not show these spikes as it most likely measuring within the window. If you want to check specific usage, switch to live view and watch before that specific appliance turns on.

Been in use for 1 month. So far, so good. I'm only monitoring the house mains - no other circuits, yet. Easy install, but my one complaint is that the antenna grommet is rubber and too soft and slightly too small to hold the antenna well. Data collection only works through their website. I wish I it would be stand-alone with zero internet connection required, like maybe connected only to Home Assistant as an option.

Item arrived in a good packed manner. The Installation Instructions for the average Person have been poor to say the least. The device was purchased to monitor 2 different Inverters form Solar Panels. After a few days of trying things we Phoned Customer Service. Yes they have been Helpful also they tried to log in remote. Anyway we found Out that we needed to Purchase separate single sensors. The Sensors Have arrived today. Anyway I had to Phone again. To make it short IT IS Working NOW. With a more detailed Instruction & Proper Explanations before you Order a lot could have been Avoided.
