5 quarts. I don't know what 3x1/ means, but it's 5 quarts. You can see it on the label in the picture.

can i use this on 1975 chevy k20 pickup truck w/400 small block? mostly cruising around town

The main reason I use this oil product is because it meets/exceeds the zinc additive levels required for the flat tappet cam on my GM 327 V8. The engine is very happy with it and oil changes show exceptional wearability. That said, you'll want to conduct your own evaluations of oil products for your engine application.
