You're better off buying the newer model
UPDATE - Returned the defective unit and purchased the newer model from Amazon (I opted to get the one with the pump, there's also one without). There is a HUGE difference between the previous model and the newer one. We think the newer one is a far better appliance. The overall quality seems better, it's virtually silent (you only hear the fan), there are 3 speeds (instead of 2 that are pretty much the same), it has built-in timer, the humidity removal seems to be the same as the previous one (excellent), and it looks better (according to my wife). Another wonderful feature is its ability to restart automatically after a black out or a brown out. If the electricity stops, it will restart based on the settings when the electricity cut out. The older model didn't do that. Unfortunately, they don't seem to have a wifi version of the most recent model. One way to get around this is to get a smart WiFi receptacle and plug in through that (just make sure it can handle the max wattage for your appliance). I can now turn it on and off via my phone, and can even monitor the electrical usage. I have it set up to only run when we're at work. You can find the newer model on Amazon:+ with a pump: Frigidaire FFAP7033T1 70 13.1-Pint Bucket Capacity, Mesh Filter and Effortless Humidity Control, Dehumidifier with Built-in Pump in White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06Y1M6XPT+ without the pump: Frigidaire 70-Pint Dehumidifier with Effortless Humidity Control, White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00UWP07LK--- original review ---The unit works fine as a dehumidifier, but 24 hrs after plugging it, its sporadically began emitting a high pitch sound that is not bearable in the long term. After being in the same room with the unit running, my my ears were ringing for over an hour after leaving. My guess is that the compressor is generating the high pitch sound. I have to mention that I did follow the directions to allow the oil to settle back into the compressor after transport: I let it sit upright in the room I would be using it in for 24 hrs prior to using (the manual recommends 2 hrs, but I waited an entire day before plugging). Also, it never seems to stop working (the compressor stops but the fan still runs).I expected more from the wifi, which drops quite often (I have various other appliances on the same router without issues). It tells me that the "wifi info has changed" and I have to go through the entire process of reconnecting it to the router. When wifi works, it's nothing to write home about. It'll tell you the humidity reading 5 minutes ago (not the current reading on the actual appliance, there's a noticeable delay). You can't program it to only work at a specific time every day (for example, I would prefer the unit turns on when we're at work and not while we're sleeping sleeping). You can use the app to turn it on/off, select the humidity level, it's very basic (that is if the wifi doesn't disconnect in my case). If you plan to use this appliance in a crawl space or an unoccupied basement, it should work fine (if you don't have the wifi issues I experienced). If you plan to use it in a living space, say a family room,I suggest you buy another appliance. If you buy something without wifi functionality, you might consider plugging it into a wifi switch, you'll get close to the same level of functionality (the only thing you won't be able to do is change the humidity setting, but than again, how many times will you be changing that, once you've figured out what the optimal setting is for your household).

WiFi feature doesn't work!
I bought this unit as I'd like to be able to monitor it from a remote location as it's not going where I live. However, when I attempted to setup the WiFi feature, the unit simply shuts off totally! Yes, I'm 100% sure I'm accurately following their instructions, it simply doesn't work. I don't know if all of these have this issue, but I'll be returning this one.

2000 Sqf basement, 65% Humidity to 50% in 18 hours!
Ok, so historically we've always had a very moist moldy unfinished basement and the smell has always managed to make its way upstairs. After about 18 hours of continuous operation the humidity in the basement went from 65% to 50% and according to my NEST the overall house humidity upstairs went from 59% to 49%. Mind you it has been raining the past 3 days now so if it's keeping up with the outdoor humidity then I think it's running pretty good.WiFi: I got this specific dehumidifier with WiFi and a external drain so I could stick a hose down a open sewer pipe and never empty it and also so I didn't have to suffocate or wear a mask to check it or change settings. What I will say is the WiFi app is very utilitarian but it is by no means broken. You have to follow the directions to the letter in order to connect your dehumidifier to your WiFi. If you're having issues then delete your WiFi from your phone then connect to the dehumidifier to perform the setup. (Sometimes your WiFi will switch back when it doesn't detect an internet connection from the dehumidifier and it interrupts the setup.)Also the Frigidaire app doesn't appear to work with google home anymore but it did at one point, there are statements from Frigidaire saying they'll add it back again when they can but honestly how often are you going to be asking your google assistant to change the dehumidifier settings?

You will love the wi-fi feature
This is wonderful! We have two Frigidaire dehumidifiers keeping the basement extremely pleasant, despite having a stone foundation and seepage of moisture during downpours (which seems to be constant this summer). Both run like champs, but this one needed to be placed where it couldn't constantly drain and I was concerned that I would fail to establish a good habit of emptying the bucket as frequently as it needed. I use a lot of home automation and scheduling to help alleviate forgetfulness, encourage energy conservation and to overcome limitations such as placement of light switches and outlets in a 120 year old house. I was hoping someone was making a smart dehumidifier by now and I'm grateful that it was Frigidaire. It was very easy to get on the network using my cell phone and the Frigidaire app. Alerts come via email and also on my phone, and if you have an iphone, the alerts will also mirror to your apple watch if you allow the default setting on your iphone to do so for you. There is NO WAY you are going to forget to empty the bucket! Woohoo! Built for me! As an unexpected consequence, since the dehumidifier requests that I journey to the basement to empty the bucket twice a day, the litter boxes in the basement are now pristine too. (you know, as long as I'm down there anyway...) If I had known this was going to solve TWO problems for me, I would have ordered this long ago. Also my local utility company in my state was at the time of the review, offering rebate checks for energy star certified appliances, so be nice to yourself, spend the extra money on a dehumidifier that's going to email you and see if you can get some money back through a rebate where you live to justify the extra cost. So much better to be master of the water bucket instead of beating yourself up for having a hard time remembering to set up the habit of emptying the bucket. (Don't most of us have 100 other things on our mind?) You aren't getting old and forgetful. You are getting older and more clever! How often can you buy that? :)

Beware Alexa users in Canada
Does work as advertised in part.Pros: does remove the humidity, it looks nice, it works with Wi-Fi. You receive notification when bucket is fullCons: Really noisy, no pause, (fan will work forever even if humidity is at 0%). only 2 fan speed and they look the same to me on the noise level side.Extra cons: Alexa skill not available for Canadian account so there is no way of controlling it with routine or anything since the Frigidaire app only let you control power, RH control, useless speed fan and set a timer.I choose this model because of the compatibility with Alexa and I would most probably edit this review with 4 star if they make the skill available to Canadians, otherwise, I might as well return it and report this product as fault advertisement.

Annoying beeping
I have had it for 3 years works great. I would give this a 5 star if it wasn't for the annoying beeping. It beeps extremely loud for 30 second straight when you pull the tank to empty the water ( WHY?)Wish you could turn off the beeping. I might just disconnect the speaker.

Nice unit & features, works as expected
Works well, maintains less than 50% humidity in our finished basement in a new home, We bought a cheap 25' hose for $12, cut it to the length we neededto reach the floor drain and it set it to 45%. It runs perfectly and cycles on and off once set humidity is reached. A bit to noisy to run when visiting family are using the basement bedrooms

Excellent Product - works well
Dehumidifier works very well; was able to connect the wifi with help from Customer Service... One very positive comment is that I didn't have to contact customer service; they seen that I wasn't able to connect somehow electronically and resolved the issue and communicated by email; I was impressed by this initiative. Love the digital display and hooked up a hose for the drain so I don't have to empty. So far, I am very satisfied...
