Wellco Rats
I have the desert temperate weather boots and just received the RATS, awesome boots! I am really hard on boots and if they last six months it's a miracle. My wellco temperate weather boots are going on 9 months now and still in great shape. When I put the rats on today, wow! These babies are comfortable. As noted in previous reviews they are snug going on and it seems like your putting on a glove for your feet if that makes sense. I don't have high arches but I can see how that could be uncomfortable as noted previously. I have come to admire the quality of my mil spec desert boots and anticipate the rats will hold up to my standards. It is too early to recommend these boots however I can say the temperate weather desert boots are 5 stars in my book. I am seriously considering a purchase of a second pair so I have one for work and a knock around pair.

This Wellco version is an insult.
This is not a RAT boot. RAT boots are made with certain materials. The outside is so-so leather instead of excellent leather, and the inside is made from the wrong materials altogether.I presume after Danner ceased making this boot, they sold the rights to the design. Great. Someone will pick up the honor of making this excellent boot, right? No, instead some slap dash operation comes along and produces a cruel caricature of the RAT boot.Mine arrived crammed into the box in the wrong positions. I could see the differences between this Wellco crap and a RAT boot immediately. The materials were not the same. That's a bad sign, but not near as bad as the contemptuous fit and finish. At first I thought the sole had been cut larger to make a wider perimeter around where it is stitched to the upper. Then I compared the Wellco boot's length to that of the RAT boots I was wearing. The upper was clearly a half inch shorter on the Wellco, sewn onto a mismatched sole size. That's why the sole was sticking out so much. Also, the stitching looked sloppy, not tight and tidy like a Danner. This Wellco is a non-functional travesty.

Wellco Men's Hot Weather Rat Hiking Boot
Very Comfortable, true to size and appears to be well made. Only worn for a month, but everything looks good so far. I don't see how you could do much better, especially for the Amazon price.

Love these boots!!!
These are factory seconds which explains the low pricing. Im in the Marine Corps and glad I ordered these boots! They are very comfortable, and need little to no break in time for me. Sizing for the(Hot Weather) boots seems to be 1 size down from sneaker size for instance im a 10.5 size sneaker and these boots are 9.5 and fit snug with little play. Some other reviews seem to say that they run small but they may have the "Temperate Weather" boots and they do generally run small due to the gortex lining. As for defects I can only find 1 as a portion of the side of boot seems to bulge out a little bit which may cause the stitching to the sole to come off on that part but if that happens im sure I can take it in to have it resoled and problem fixed. In all Im very happy to have the boots and very satisfied with the shipper.

3rd World manufacturing standards
Tough to put on. Fairly comfortable once on. Just don't ever take them off for the rest of your life...😩 Because the gortex liner peels out along with your socks and the insert. Now, you can attempt to push all that gortex back in place. Fold the insert and try to reinstall but the gortex liner bunched up as it gets caught on the adhesive the manufacturer used to install the gortex to keep the liner in place. ARRRRGGG! Can you imagine trying to put this on or off while your in the middle of a drill sergeant shark attack. Some of you can relate I'm sure. I agree with the poster who said that it appears the soles were trimmed with a butter knife. Zero standards for this item

Some mean boots!
I’ve worn too many boots that just make it maybe 6 months, these last for over a year and maybe can get 2 if they’re taken care of. Buy with confidence because these are the best in my opinion.
