Music of Hawaii

One of the best Hapa Haole albums ever.. If you love Hawaii.. If you love the Romance of Hawaiian Music this is the one for you..Beautiful....

In the last couple of months I've begun to collect some Hawaiian music, largely with the help of Amazon customer reviewers, so I'm not an expert on this like some of these reviewers are. This MUSIC OF HAWAI'I by Jack de Mello is one that I was led to buy, and I've enjoyed it quite much. This CD emphasizes a mysterious and powerful Hawai'i, and is performed by a large orchestra and chorus, often with the soprano Nina Keali'iwahamana as soloist. There are a few pieces that are totally instrumental. The accompanying 11-page booklet is very helpful in discussing this music, which spans the time from 1820 up to the 1970s. While most of the music was written by Hawaiian composers there's a wide variety of origins here. As, several pieces were from movies about Hawai'i, including music from film composers Ken Darby, John Williams, and Elmer Bernstein.It's not clear when these recordings were made, and while the stereo sound is quite good and low distortion, it does sound to me that it's probably all pre-digital. And while I enjoy this MUSIC OF HAWAI'I CD, I do feel that overall it's rather too slow and serious. Therefore, on my computer I deleted 4 of the slow songs that are quite similar to each other and added several faster tunes from another Jack de Mello album entitled  Steel Guitar Magic: Hawaiian Style . That CD is more light-hearted and faster and is kind of a "party" disc, with lots of the Hawaiian Steel Guitars that sound more like "Hawaiian music" to us neophytes. I much enjoy the combination of the 2 albums, and they're both great to own.

Wonderful music. Spend hours just enjoying.

It turns out I no longer like the 1950s 'lush' style of music any more. If you do, then this will be great.

If you like original hawaiian music with fabulous arrangements then this is for you. A treat to your ears!!A full symphony in action..

I liked the orchestrated music of Hawaiian songs of old,

loved them all. I choose not to elaborate. Too many words are not necessary. Hope this gets me out of here.

Music of Hawaii Ce produit est tres decevant, le titre n°1 est une longue tirade dont on a que faire, ensuite les autres titres sont parasites par une musique au souffle tres lourd et tres penible. Ce CD est une anarque et ce serait bien qu'on puisse etre rembourse d'un produit qui n'est rien d'autre qu'une escroquerie ! L'image d'Amazone musique en sort ternie. Music of Hawaii
