So far so good. This watch is working on par with my Apple watch but looking so much better! I am very happy with this watch. All the features are working seamlessly with my iPhone. Some of the health information is superior to that of my Fitbit and my Apple Watch. This is an impressive watch. The battery life is incredible, four days easily. This was a big purchase for a watch and I am happy with the results.

### ⭐⭐⭐ A Bit Gaudy For My Taste; Flat Crystal Avoids Glare and is Easier To Read; Scanwatch Light is Better

I’ve owned essentially every generation of Withings hybrid smartwatch, beginning with the Steel HR when it was the first of its kind, a hybrid smartwatch with tasteful design and analog hands, ability to show smartphone notifications, and health/activity tracking. I have also owned a variety of others along the way, including the Garmin Vivomove HR and Trend, and various entries into the market from Timex, Skagen, Fossil, and others. I also own, and continue to use, an Oura smart ring, which is the market leader not only in gathering accurate data but in the intelligence of their analysis and algorithms. I’ve also tried Fitbit, and Withings’s Fitbit-alike, whose name eludes me at the moment, but didn’t keep them long, because I simply want an analog watch with physical hands. If you’re looking for a hybrid smart watch with physical hands, I think Withings is the clear winner in form, function, and style. They are also a better value than their competition, which at this point has diminished to essentially only Garmin. However, none of the models past or present from any maker has been everything I want, and they all have shortcomings. What I personally want in a smartwatch, and which no one has ever made, is a) physical hands including a ticking second hand, b) long battery life, c) silent vibrating wakeup alarm, and d) ability to receive and display smartphone notifications on my wrist. I actually don’t want health, sleep, and activity tracking in a smartwatch; the Oura ring is simply too good, and I’d rather buy a watch without those features and have its battery last longer as a result. (Withings has improved their health, activity, and sleep tracking over time as well as the quality of their analytics and insight, and it is not bad, but it does not approach the accuracy or usefulness of Oura’s. And by the way, I have severe sleep apnea and neither Oura’s nor Withings’ respiratory or SpO2 tracking ever flagged anything of concern; don’t be fooled that these devices can detect respiratory incidents accurately from your wrist, nor that their ECG features are any real use.) My foray into the Garmin watches has been disappointing. The Garmin Vivomove HR that I owned and used for a while was very expensive, but its health, sleep, and activity tracking was pretty accurate. Its battery didn’t last as long as any of the Withings watches I’ve owned, but it did last multiple days on each charge. It was pretty easy to use and the display was easy to read. The Garmin Vivomove Trend that I replaced it with is also expensive, but notably inferior. Even with heart rate tracking disabled, it only lasts 5 days per charge. It’s all but impossible to see the hands since they’re dark charcoal on black, the dial is brushed and creates radial glossy reflections, the alarm and notification vibrations are very soft and it doesn’t wake me from sleep, and it only notifies of text/calls, not other apps. The default silicon band isn’t pleasant feeling and is hard to fasten, and its tip comes out of its keeper and snags on my clothing. There’s no physical buttons; it has a touchscreen, which is flaky and hard to use, and misinterprets gestures and taps more than it gets them right. I like the Withings Scanwatch a lot better. The Withings Scanwatch (and Steel HR, before it) have been good enough that I’ve worn them 24/7 for more than a decade. The only times I’ve not used them is when I’ve tried other devices like the Garmins for a month or two. However, they are definitely not perfect. I’ll leave aside the Steel HR, and focus only on the Scanwatch and newer generations. In mid-2026, I bought a sample of essentially the entire Withings lineup to compare (except for the luxury Scanwatch Brilliant). I’m going to keep the one I want and return the rest; if Withings’ website would have clearer, more accurate information and more realistic photos, I feel I could have avoided this, but so it goes. The Scanwatch has been my daily wear since 2022, when I bought it to replace my Steel HR. I like the design of its dial, but I have no use for the lower subdial, which shows activity goal progress, and I dislike the domed crystal. The indexes and hands are marked with white paint, clearly contrasting with the black dial face, and the hands are luminous at night (it fades as the night progresses, but if I wake in the night I can still get a sense of what time it is). The battery life has been quite good until recently, when a charge has dropped from 20-25 days to only a week at best, just due to battery aging. The notifications are genuinely useful, and allow me to keep my smartphone out of sight or in my pocket. This is something I feel a lot of people don’t value the way they should in these watch reviews: it is genuinely transformative to be able to keep a distance from your phone and avoid its distractions. You can get text, call, and any other notifications — any app that pops up a notification on your phone screen can be configured to show that on the watch instead. The upper subdial is a small display, and the text of the notification will scroll across it. The display will also show the time, date, and other things (configurable) when you press the crown pusher. The notification/alarm vibration is configurable in three levels, and even a gentler vibration is strong enough to wake me, which is a wonderful feature and lets me wake without disturbing my partner. I like that it has a physical crown with pusher, so interacting with it is physical and tactile, not taps and swipes. I wish the Scanwatch had a flat crystal and a second hand, but otherwise it’s been pretty good, maybe 8/10 or 9/10 score; not perfect, but pretty good. The domed crystal is worth calling out, as it’s been a feature of all Withings hybrid smart watches until recently. It’s a VERY BAD design, full stop. You do not get a sense of how bad until you wear one of these watches. I have complained repeatedly to Withings about it, but they must have their own version of Steve Jobs who thinks they know better than users. The issue with the domed crystal is that it makes it impossible to avoid reflections glaring off the face and making it hard to read. No matter how you tilt and turn the watch, SOMETHING is glaring off the crystal. And of course Withings’s product photos never show this, making it seem like the watch face is glare-free and easy to read (and they actually show a short video of the flat-faced Scanwatch Light on their Scanwatch 2 web page, which is super misleading). I don’t know why they have stubbornly insisted on continuing to use a domed crystal, but they need to quit. Note: some of the new generation has a flat crystal, and it’s a huge improvement. Note, also: the current Scanwatch 2 has a shallower dome, but domed is domed: it’s still just as bad, and actually worse in some ways. Now, on to the current generation. As I mentioned, I bought a Scanwatch 2, Scanwatch Nova, and Scanwatch Light in mid-2026 to compare. I opened and examined all three of them, and it was immediately obvious that only the Scanwatch Light was for me. If it didn’t exist I could accept the Scanwatch 2, but the Light is much better. The Scanwatch 2 is quite similar to the first-generation Scanwatch in most ways such as the size and design of the casing, with minor differences to reduce the contrast of the dial, hands, and indexes. The hour and minute hands still have luminous white paint, but the main index is no longer marked with paint; it’s made of shiny polished bits of dark metal, which are harder to read. The second subdial is also more muted. The crystal is still domed, as I mentioned, but is only about half as high, which is just an indescribably bad design decision. Now, not only is it still impossible to tilt the watch in any direction that fully avoids glare, but the glare that does appear off the crystal is twice as large. I am at a loss for words to say how I feel about this. They went from bad to worse. Someone please talk to the designer who doubled down on this domed-crystal nonsense. Also, talk to the product photographers who continue to photograph it for the website in ways that make it impossible to tell it’s domed; I had to chat in to a support rep to ask if it’s domed or flat, since you literally cannot tell from the misleading, unrealistically lit (or airbrushed?) photos on the website. The Scanwatch Nova is too gaudy for me, and has features that I don’t want and don’t need, such as the rotating bezel (why?). It’s kind of a weak imitation of a dive watch. However, it must be said that the dial and hands are much easier to read: the crystal is flat, making it easy to avoid glare, and the hands are chunky and well-highlighted with large, luminous white paint. I understand who this watch is designed for, although I think even those customers likely won’t ever use things like the rotating bezel and I worry that it’s a physically weak point that could leak water or something. But this design isn’t for me; it’s too much jewelry, too little watch. Also, the stainless steel bracelet that came with mine is only suitable for tiny hands, and essentially won’t fit onto my hands, and by extension won’t fit onto most men’s hands. There are tools and additional links in the box to enlarge the bracelet, but I dare say this is not the right default approach for most people. I see the watch is marked as a frequently-returned item. Requiring a new owner to enlarge the bracelet before they can even get it onto their wrist might explain 95% of this. The Scanwatch Light is the best compromise for me: no second subdial (hooray!), decently readable index and hands even if not as contrasty as I’d like, and above all, a flat crystal. I emphasize: finally, a flat crystal! May they live long and prosper, praise and gratitude, a FLAT crystal! It’s a bit small for my taste; I’d like a 42mm case instead of 37mm, but I can live with it. I wish the hands and dial had luminous paint, or at the very least white paint. And the case is glossy, rather than the brushed matte of the Scanwatch that I was expecting based on the photos (again: Withings, you really need to focus your product images on accuracy, not on showing a fairy-tale airbrushed version of how your products could look in unrealistic lighting that doesn’t exist). The vibration and alarm notifications are softer than I’m used to with my Scanwatch and not configurable, but still just strong enough to wake me. I assume this is to save battery power, as the case is reduced in size enough that there must be a smaller battery inside. I’ve been wearing my Scanwatch Light for 15 days now and I have one alarm and about a dozen apps’ notifications enabled, and it has dropped from 100% charge to 38% charge. It’s not going to last me 30 days, but I’m happy with the 20 days I estimate at this point. The lack of second subdial does have an unfortunate side effect: my old Scanwatch showed just the time and date, when I pushed the crown pusher, but the Scanwatch Light now shows a more cluttered display with the step goal progress, and as a result the time is in smaller font, and impossible for me to read at night with my aging eyes. This isn’t configurable, alas. If you want my recommendation, I think the two strong contenders for most people are the Scanwatch 2 and Scanwatch Light. If you think you’ll like the Scanwatch 2, also maybe consider buying the previous generation Scanwatch; for my purposes it’s equally capable and I assume they’re selling the remaining stock and will offer discounts on it. As I’ve mentioned, I have some minor quibbles with the Scanwatch Light, but for me, the flat crystal and simpler design make it a clear winner. Especially the flat crystal. Hallelujah, flat crystal!!! Withings: please make a watch that’s like the Scanwatch 2, but with a COMPLETELY FLAT crystal, better hand/dial/index visibility like the first-gen Scanwatch, and without the second subdial. Even better: add a ticking second hand. And if you make a version without health, sleep, and activity tracking, I’ll buy it immediately. Please?
