It keeps the baby's arms at his sides, compared to most which wrap the arms on his chest. This makes it harder for him to break out and scrunch the fabric by his face (as happened with other swaddles as he tried to bring his hands to his mouth). He is just now, around 4 months, getting a little too long for it, to where he can scrunch it with his arms. Leaving his arms at his aides also stops him from trying to roll, which was possible in some others (note: babies who can roll over should not be swaddles; my son rolled from back to side the day we came home from the hospital and was closely monitored which sleeping). I appreciate that while it ends up putting several layers around baby, it is lightweight, breathable cotton. On hot nights, I only used a short sleeve onesie underneath to prevent overheating. I wish there was a way to secure the end piece of fabric as it always scared me a little to have a loose piece hanging around, but it never got near his face. There is definitely a learning curve in trying to get it positioned and tightened perfectly for your baby. We wrapped it slightly differently at different times based on his needs (e.g wrapping it higher or lower, leaving his legs out, etc.). I recommend these to everyone I know!
