Review: Excellent laptop - I highly recommend the Asus Vivobook (ASUS Vivobook 15 OLED X1505ZA 15.6" Full HD OLED Laptop (Intel i5-12500H, 16GB RAM). I can't really talk about its biggest selling point, the OLED screen, because I HDMI the laptop to an external monitor, but for what it's worth, the OLED screen is very impressive with bright deep colours. Related to using the external monitor, I like that the Asus has a 180 degree "lay flat" screen hinge, so it doesn't obscure the external monitor. The Asus laptop has quick start up time; yes, that'll probably slow down over the next five years as most laptops do, but we'll enjoy the good times while they're here. The intel i5 12th gen H series handles multiple processes like Adobe Photoshop, Cap Cut and multiple streaming Internet Explorer tabs effortlessly and I've hardly noticed the fan at all; in fact my external hard drives are louder in operation than the Asus. There's no ethernet port; I believe you can get an adaptor that allows ethernet use. There's a USB C port, which I've never had on a laptop before, so that's handy. Lack of lights on the keyboard is annoying but not a deal breaker. Also a lack of SD card reader, but again no deal breaker Slight negative is the keyboard area around the 'enter' button... when you press the 'enter' button, the surrounding keyboard plastic presses downwards, giving it a 'cheap' feel. It's my first ASUS and so far after three weeks I have no regrets. UPDATE: 27 Dec 2024: touchpad no longer works, which for a laptop is important. All the steps followed on Asus website and still not working. Avoid this product! Review: Great spec, great laptop - I bought this at £499, in a few days the price has increased by £80! ( tariff knock on maybe). Even so this is an excellent spec for the price, super sharp oled screen, i5 processor, 16gb ram, 1tb ssd drive. I knew it was a bargain when I saw it for a local committee i am part of, and now kicking myself I didn’t buy one for myself as well. Out of the box it needed the usual time wasting windows updates so spent about an hour doing that, then discovered that the trackpad was not working. Did some online research and found it needed an Asus firmware update which fixed the problem. I still give it 5 stars because this was a steal at the price and out of the box updates are a necessity. The oled screen is just beautiful, its fast and im sure for the general day to day use it will receive it will be perfect. Not bought as a gaming machine so not sure of the graphics capabilities.

Pretty decent for a 600 euro laptop
My laptop features the intel i5 12500H processor, oled monitor at 60hz and 16gb ram. I have so far used this laptop to watch Netflix in bed and do some light gaming, so I haven't gotten around to using it for coding. The processor is good and the integrated graphics are fine enough. I have played some League of Legends on medium-low graphics settings and obviously the FPS is locked to 60. It runs fine (the game runs on potatos anyways). I wouldn't dare install any newer more demanding games to be honest, but you are welcome to try! I don't own and have not owned any other OLED displays so I can't comment if this is a good one or not comparitively but it looks good to me. The colours are definitely nicer than my old 1080p monitor. The laptop's build quality is nice enough, it is no Macbook or anything but it feels decently sturdy, the hinge could be a better but just pay attention to how to handle it. The material used is definitely a fingerprint magnet. The keyboard is a regular old membrane keyboard and this model features no backlighting sadly. The keys feel fine to me but yeah it could be better. The weakest link in this machine is the battery for sure. I have gone through all the settings and kill background processes but this thing likes to drain pretty fast from activities as simple as just watching Netflix (while it is the only program running in the forefront too). It is quite disappointing and I actively leave Battery Saver mode on with lower brightness so it lasts a bit longer. All in all, I was looking for a more budget friendly laptop I can take to college for notes and to do my coding assignments and this will do just fine. If you are like me in that sense, then I think you might be just about satisfied with this laptop, though if you will take it to a place with-out many power outlets, good luck.

Disappointing product.
Quality laptop until it stopped charging after only 16 months. Bought a replacement PSU but clearly an issue with the laptop itself. ASUS warranty is only 12 months but it would be reasonable to expect a product from a respected seller & manufacturer to last significantly longer.

Great laptop
I'm by no means a tecchy wiz, but I know a fast laptop when I see one. This one is. The OLED screen is crystal clear, but I'm just a bit concerned that after buying it, I read about the screen burn, but as I just read emails, go to Facebook or play bingo on it, I'm no overly concerned, but I do keep the brightness below 50% just in case. Setting it up was a doddle, unpacked and installed my Microsoft account/Facebook/ favourite games in less than 20 minutes, and all up and running so quickly. It's a stylish bit of kit, looks good, but it tends to get a bit warm if you use it for what it was designed for....on your lap! No problem, I bought a cooling thingy. The only thing that bothers me is why oh why did laptop designers do away with the cd drive? Not Asus at fault here, all of them, I can't install my card making packages, or paint shop pro without having to pay for them a second time..... so thats why they've done it! But I'll just buy some memory sticks and take them off my old desktop and hope I can re-install them on this great laptop, worth a try! Sorry this is not a technical write up, but just to say, its great and the picture quality is gorgeous and I definitely won't drop this one, as I did its predecessor! Oh, I love the 1TB of capacity, it should take me 10 years to get close to filling it!!

Excellent value for money
This was to replace a laptop I bought second hand several years ago but have spent multiple times a day cursing as it was sooooo slow. I don’t game but I do use a lot of fairly sizeable spreadsheets to organise my life. It was painful! This ASUS is so fast I rarely have time to blink. The keyboard and mouse are good too but I use separate ones for 99% of the time. This item was the spec I didn’t think I could afford. I would say that some may find the screen a bit small but this is set up on a desk and is the same screen size as the previous one which was ideal for me. It looks a lot smaller as the ‘frame’ is much narrower and it’s so thin. Weighs very little. Windows 11 takes a bit of getting used to but then so did the system on the previous one. The set up was easy but a friend did help copying all my ‘stuff’ over. Like moving home it’s time to clear the attic out. Painful to see how much rubbish and duplication I have on there. This is WiFi only and we set the printer option to WiFi which means a lot less cabling. There seems to be a lot more ports too so I can probably get rid of of the multi socket thing I’ve got for the separate keyboard and mouse. Hopefully this will outlast me! The colours are amazing so this may become my device of choice for tv catch up and not my mini iPad or my aging tv.

Asus X1505ZA - The good, the bad and maybe to help you
Asus Laptop Vivobook 15 X1505ZA bought 26/2/25 I'm struggling to rate this. It's 5 stars for the machine and 1 star for my set up experience - maybe it's a one-off and yours might be fine. Here's my observations starting with the bad stuff and ending on a high... *** The bad *** - In setting it up the touchpad would not work so I had to navigate setup menus with TAB, ALT+TAB and arrow keys. Nightmare. After around 2 hours of trying everything on the internet to fix it I was about to post it back to Amazon when I tried one last thing which no new user should ever have to do which was to do a BIOS reset. Most people won't even know what the BIOS is ! It's an easy fix though, hold the power key down as if switching it off but hold the key for over 40 seconds. This cured it once it rebooted. I hope Asus are listening! - The black plastic is an absolute fingerprint magnet and I really do not have greasy or sweaty fingers or palms. I would have preferred silver if it was available at the same price - The speakers are a serious embarrassment, my 180quid phone sounds infinitely better than this laptop - On the keyboard I dislike the tiny "Enter" key. I want something sizeable to whack at the end of a paragraph. If they were short of space who decided that the Shift key should be bigger and more important than the Enter key when there's already a shift key on the left hand side of the keyboard. Madness. - I miss the dedicated "home" and "End" which now require Fn to be pressed, so to select to the end of a document you need to press Shift+Ctrl+fn+right arrow key! - Battery life isn't as good as I expected for a modern machine, may be 3-4hours at best, but I can live with that - Really not bothered about a microbial guard and would rather have had a fingerprint free plastic... *** The Good *** - Good spec for the price 1Tb SSD,16Gb memory, 15.6" OLED screen 469GBP - Positives - noticeably quicker than my previous 10 yr old Acer i5 with 8Gb and physical hard drive when used for the heavy work of DSLR photos, Nikon NX studio and for spreadsheets, Breezes through browsing and document editing - The Wifi receiver/transmitter seems much more sensitive than my old laptop so connects and stays connected significantly better - Windows 11 hardly any different to Windows 10 - Lovely OLED screen display - Very quiet, little fan noise (it may be on more in the summer tbc) - I like the physical light for Caps lock - The laptop is around 1.5cm smaller all around than my previous laptop with the same screen size and is lighter. C contrary to some reviews I don't think it's particularly flimsy and easily holds its own weight without buckling if held up in just one corner - Bluetooth connectivity seems good which allows a better speaker to be used - I like that the tracker pad is more central than my previous machine - After owning it now for 2 weeks I am pleased with the performance and display of my Asus X1505ZA and would definitely recommend it if the price remains competitive Oh and one other thing, if you're currently using Microsoft Edge browser, the "shopping panel" that shows the price trend is absolute garbage, don't believe it. Edge says that in February when I bought the laptop that it was over 100GBP cheaper and I was searching for 2 weeks and the price never moved from the price I paid.

Superb value for money laptop
I've had this Asus Vivobook 15 for a month now and can only describe it as a fabulous product. The screen rightly gets praised for it's clarity and colour. The CPU in this model is an older one in Intel's i5 line up but it's no slouch and is more than enough for every day use, especially given the 12 cores. It's just lightning fast. I always thought 8 GB of RAM is enough to run Windows but occasionally checking RAM usage it's often above 50% so glad this Vivobook has 16 GB, and there is a spare slot to add more. Also having a 1 TB SSD makes this whole package super value for money. You can spend £2K and more but honestly would you get anything noticeably better than this at £550? Regarding heat generation, mine runs quite cool and I've never heard the fan running. Warm air does emit from the LHS so the fan is running but it's silent. I run mine on power all the time so can't comment on battery life. The power brick never even gets warm. If I were super critical then the only 2 very slight negatives would be that the keyboard has a little bit of flex in the middle but doesn't affect it's working in any way. And the black model I have is a bit of a fingerprint magnet but it's very easy to clean. However these are not enough to subtract a star from the rating. One piece of advice I would say to everybody who has an OLED screen - activate one of the screen savers to prevent screen burn in. I have "Mystify" set and can sit for hours watching it!
