This looks pretty boring to me but I think my son who’s a town planner has bought it off my Amazon account.

I enjoyed reading this book.
I write this as a student currently studying for an MSc Transport Planning which included a module related to urban design; this was the first time that I had covered the subject and this book was on the recommended reading list. As such I found this to be a very helpful and insightful title providing a good introduction to of some of the key developments in planning in the UK up to the election of the Coalition Government in 2010. Yvonne Rydin’s more recent book ‘The Purpose of Planning’, (Policy Press, 2013) covers developments from this period onwards, (which I am currently reading).I found this book easy to read that could be completed in one sitting if need be, it would also be of interest to the lay reader looking to gain more of an insight into the subject without becoming bogged down in too much detail. For these reasons, I am happy to recommend this book.

Very subjective views
This book has a very big name on its cover, however, the content is very boring to read, the argument is very subjective and can be very misleading for planning students. A total waste of my money.

Useless
This book is just repeating other authors. Useless at all.
