The main hose connector is welded to the outside of the reel. If you connect hose on the outside it will crimp the hose and not allow water to flow through the hose. If you force hose through the wheel in order to wind it up once again the hose crimps and the water will not flow. Therefore all the hose must be unwound in order for the water to flow! Also, notice that the unit is already rusting and it has only been outdoors for 2 months!! It is not only poorly built and designed but it is made of cheap, cheap materials!! I have had others before this and they have lasted over 5 years and I could leave half of the hose on the cart with no problem with the water flow.
