Has the safrole been removed?

I really don’t know that answer but it does taste like the tea we made from roots daddy would dig up when I was little.

When did the FDA lift the ban on sassafras??

The FDA did not ban sassafras from sale, the FDA says that it cannot be used as the primary ingredient for an end product that is to be consumed. The sassafras root bark contains much less safrole than the actual root, which was historically drank as a tea. Many of our customers do use this product to make their own root beer. The study that the FDA hangs their hat on regarding safrole, is flawed, there has been zero research that indicates negative effects in humans. Actually, common household spices like black pepper & Star Anise also contain safrole. If you are looking for a more root beer type of flavor, you would be much happier purchasing our Really Root Beer loose leaf tea it is much less expensive than this material and is tastier. Our customers use the tea blend to make their own root beer as well and it turns out great!

The product comes loose in a poly/foil bag, not individual tea bags. You may purchase fillable bags for this purpose.

How many cups will the 1 ounce package measure out to while dry?

1 oz sassafras would not fill up a cup. If you are looking to brew or create root beer you should try our A&Js Root Beer blend. Sassafras is extremely difficult to source and an expensive option. Brewing with our A&Js Root Beer or our really root beer blends will produce better results for less out of pocket expense. :)
