Great for offroad use
Love this GPS i use it on off road trips to talladega national forest and I'm confident I'll find my way out of the woods every time. The interface with my phone and music apps is not the best because garmin wants to control everything and I'd prefer the to function separately like android auto or carplay does

Typical Garmin problems
As recommended, I tried to use my XT2 as a hub to play music from Pandora on my phone to my Cardo unit. It works sometimes, but not always. If you want music, you need to disconnect the XT2 and do a direct connection from my Iphone to my Cardo. All good except now you don't have your routes from the Tread app. I've been using Garmin for motorcycle touring for many years and had my share of frustration. I just wish garmin spent the time to get things working prior to putting them on the market. On the bright side, the display is nice and the hardware seems pretty good, but that doesn't help if it doesn't work.

Great Hardware, But Software and Compatibility Are a Letdown
The Garmin Zumo XT2 offers excellent hardware with a bright screen, robust build, and useful motorcycle-friendly features. However, the overall experience is frustrating due to Garmin's software and compatibility issues: 1. BaseCamp Incompatibility: Despite Garmin recommending BaseCamp for route planning, the Zumo XT2 isn’t officially supported. This means you can’t access the GPS's maps in BaseCamp, forcing you to find workarounds or alternative tools. 2. No PC Tread App: The Tread app, which Garmin promotes for this device, is mobile-only. If you prefer planning routes on a computer, you’re out of luck unless you use a smartphone emulator (an unnecessary hassle for a premium device). 3. Limited Free Route Planning Options: BaseCamp relies on its low-detail default maps unless you manually download third-party maps like OpenStreetMap. Garmin’s inability to make this process easier feels like an oversight. 4. Additional Costs and Subscriptions: After spending a premium on the device, Garmin Explore requires additional hardware like an inReach device to function. Other route-planning tools like MyRoute-app require subscriptions, making it frustrating for users who’ve already invested heavily. 5. Map Installation Issues: Garmin Express doesn’t reliably offer the option to install maps on a PC, further complicating route planning unless the device is constantly plugged into your computer. In summary, while the Zumo XT2 excels in hardware, Garmin has failed to deliver a seamless software experience for PC users, leaving a frustrating gap for those who want to efficiently plan routes on a larger screen. For the price, Garmin should do better.

Zumo XT won’t work if not connected to power source.
I received my Zumo xt2. No user manual or initial quick start guide. This is shows poor understanding of customer experience. I lost an entire night booting, factory resetting. Nothing worked as I thought the device is charged and I can start setting it up. Garmin is a storied company, but no one in the company thought to mention to the customer that to configure it, needs to be powered all the time to a wall outlet or a computer. And I had to talk to someone in the customer service next day to realize this. And on top of it the device will not charge unless it’s on not in sleep mode on the wall power. On the bike it needs to be on as well to charge. Beyond this the product works I haven’t put it through its paces. More to follow.

Clunky interface and unreliable
It takes some effort to figure out how to use the clunky interface and I am not sure how this company is not getting outcompeted by more user-friendly options. I got this device mainly so I can navigate in the backcountry using routes downloaded as GPX files. This requires the device to sync with the Tread app on my phone which sometimes it will do and other times it will just sit there spinning. I have now installed a microSD card with my GPX files on the device (so I can bypass the need to sync), but again, it seems to work only intermittently. It is beyond frustrating when one is in the middle of nowhere trying to navigate and the route that was there previously has now disappeared from the device. On top of all that I am often having problems with the base map being very slow to load and me riding into portions on the screen for which the map has not loaded yet. On the days that things do work they tend to work well, but unfortunately the device is simply not reliable. I have had problems with previous Garmin devices and yet I keep on buying new ones hoping that they will improve with time. Alas, no such luck.
