got it for tamales but is great for sous vide, very happy with this set!
I make tamales elotes a lot and had been trying to get by with just using a silicone steamer basket in my stock pot but this was just not working out well so I was excited to try this pot set. I like that this is the original Granite Ware brand and that it is not made in China, so I am willing to pay more for not made in China. I do only a little bit of canning so a smaller pot for camping smaller lots will be much better for me, but I won't get to try that out until this coming fall. I was very excited to have a pot with an insert that was designed for use with tamales and I have really enjoyed this now, so glad I got this pot, would be happy with this if tamales was all I ever used it for. But what I didn't think about until I got it and saw the size was sous vide! I sous vide every week, sometimes more than once, and to fill a whole huge stock pot just to get it to the middle of the fill range just uses so much water, so I tried this pot instead because it is tall and skinny and it is a much better fit for my sous vide and uses less water. Everything stacks inside it and stores compactly too (lid, bowls, inserts). Five stars.

Nothing like the granite ware my Grandma had..
This set is a lot thinner and feels flimsy compared to my grandma’s granite ware I remember her having as a kid. I got this set thinking it would be similar, but was a bit dismayed after unboxing the set. Some of the edges like on the stockpot and steamer tray are sharp. And then there’s little dents everywhere on some of the pieces. I definitely won’t be using the cookware in the house as I have much better quality sets, but do plan keeping this in the camper to use when we go camping. The stockpot would be good to use for canning too if I did any. I do however like the 2 bowls in the set - they’re just right for mini or single serving bags of popped popcorn and have been using them for that purpose. Overall though just not terribly impressed for the price. Was more so hoping for the old vintage quality I remember as a kid. Bummer.

Lots of different capabilities with this set, a little smaller than I expected.
There's a lot you can do with this seven piece cooking pot kit.You can boil stuff, team stuff, strain stuff, can or jar stuff, and even have a couple of bowls that you could serve stuff in.It seems like a good quality enamel coating to protect the pots and accessories. Hopefully that will last a long time.I think this setup will be great for seafood boils with the included strainer inner pot. It also has the stainless steel insert for canning or jarring your homegrown garden goodness. My only disappointment, and it is my fault, is I thought it was going to be a bit bigger from the pictures. However, it clearly states it is an 8 qt pot. I have measured out 8 quarts of water and it filled to the top of the pot, but it does hold 8 full quarts.I think this kit will fill a lot of uses around our kitchen, and even out camping or clam digging at the ocean.

Perfect for quick boilings and a host of other uses
From the time I was a small child, and I suspect a myriad of other peeps have a like experience, we all remember such a stock pot as this in our house and kitchen. It was used for everything, from simple pasta boiling, to making sauces, to steaming crabs and veggies, and that list goes on and on.This item comes with all the traditional accompaniments. The double broiler. The dual strainer/steamer. It's all simply great. The heft it great, in that it's still rather light, perfect for such use and easy handling. At the same time, it seems quite sturdily made. Not cheap and some "posers" are often placed in the market. Those quickly scar, burn and even peel under normal use.Time will tell as to this items ability to stand up, but from everything I have inspected here at the first, I consider this item will see much good use in the coming years. Great start out of the gate.
