A lovely collection of stories with bequtiful illustrations.If you are a fan of the Herriot series, this makes a great way to introduce children to the series with shorter stories. They also feature words and terminology that are true to the life of a vet at the time and will suit any age.Have purchased a second copy to gift to a friend's child.

Wonderful Stories
I am from the United States. Have always loved James Herriot books. My mother gave this collection to my son when he was three. All of my children have loved it, as have I. They are grown now and we still refer to some of the characters. My niece lives in England now. I felt her son needed this book so I gave it to him for Christmas. He loves it! They sent me a video with his thanks. He has acquired the sweetest British accent. I highly recommend this collection!

Gorgeous Book
This book was a treasure from the moment we set eyes on it on Christmas morning. It is so beautiful, high quality, generous and beautifully illustrated and written. It is a thing of beauty and my children were so enraptured by the lovely, gentle, joyful tales that my 4 year old girl and 7 year old boy begged for it every night at bedtime. Every night we read another story until it was finished. Truly the best book I have ever bought my children. It is charming and will fill your children with love, happiness and peace, as well as many laughs.

Good Introduction
This took ages to arrive and I didn't realise it was a hardback, my fault. It was a bit young for my daughter who is 12 but she read and enjoyed it. It has lovely illustrations for the younger child too. Probably more suitable for 8yrs of age. Good introduction to James Herriot my daughter has now progressed onto the adult aged books.

Beautiful, true to life countryside stories
This is probably my favourite book for my little one. We have a farming background and it is lovely to read stories which are written true-to-life from the aspect of a country vet. The stories contain words that people from farms/country will appreciate, such as piggery, cleats, hock etc. A great book to read aloud. Lovely, slightly longer stories than other typical picture books. This is a book I know we will read for years to come (dv).

A true treasure and wonderful gift for youngsters
One of our younger children’s favorite story books. The pictures are beautifully done and add the perfect touch to Herriot’s wonderful animal stories for children. This one truly is a treasure! A book to teach your kids empathy for animals.
I havent come across any book as wonderful as this which talks of animals and their stories..and these are not fictions..but true stories penned by the Veterinary doctor practicing in Scotland countryside. The stories are of farm animals like cats and dogs and horse and ship and pig. Each story is narrated very well to depict the character of each animal without any jargon.And what to say about marvelous illustrations of this book. There is not a single page without illustration. Rather the stories are written on illustrated pages. The illustrations very well show the countryside Scotland which seems very similar to rural India of farms and animals. Each page is a vibrant imagery. Both the illustrators have their own different style. The book has a very grand size. You would feel like a photo album..like a memoir someone had made.You would surely love this book for yourself and your kids.This review is for hardcover edition by St. Martin's Griffin (ISBN : 978-1250058133)
