Remaining faithful to the hugely influential original, the 2018 redesigned Civilization puts players against each other in their quest to lead a nation to the pinnacle of development. Designed to be played by 2 - 7 players. Gameplay can last for up to eight hours. For ages 10 years and up Game Play Civilization is the epic game that urges players to lead their nation to become the most powerful and advanced civilisation on the board! In the Ancient World of the eastern Mediterranean and the Near East, each player controls a different nation as they seek to become the most powerful and advanced civilisation. Although battles and territorial strategy are important, this is not a war game. The object of the game is to gain a level of overall advancement involving cultural, economic and political factors so that conflicts arise due to rivalry and land shortage rather than a desire to eliminate other players. Good planning, tactful negotiation and decisive action are required in equal measure if players are to lead their nations to victory. Although the rules stay true to Francis Tresham’s original, the 2018 edition of C ivilization has had some aesthetic improvements. The game features brand new artwork, a reworked box and a redesigned rules booklet. The components and player mats too have received a makeover, while very much maintaining the feel of the 1980s original. Civilization is, at its core, a game of skill. With no dice and very little left to the gods of chance, it is a game that rewards carefully planned strategy and masterful execution. It's one of the best games ever. You need a whole day (7+ hours) to play it, but the game starts easy (expanding but not meeting others) and slowly develops. By the time you are exposed to all of it, you have got the hang of the basics, so even a new player can win. Lots of chances to catch up if you are losing. You can replay it from time to time, so it becomes value for money. Also takes 7 players, which many games can't cope with.
