If you zoom in on the photo, it appears to be plastic. Double check the item description. This was a gift and the recipient was very pleased with the toy. Hope this helps some.

There appears to be two designs for this toy - one with rounded ends and the other with a more flattened ends. which is delivered ?

I got the one with rounded ends. Although there was no choice so I don’t know if that’s what everybody gets.

Still enjoyable at 18 months?

Depends on your child's preferences. Mine finds enjoyment slamming it into the floor and occasionally shaking it but that's about it. Get a shaker instead perhaps?
