This system works by sending out an ultrasonic frequency sound and using the receiver to pick up this signal. I used my unit to check for water leaks in my car. I put the transmitter inside the car near to the leak and used the receiver to check for the generated sound outside and around the door seals of my car. A leak would require an opening in the car's seals and this should allow the sound to get through to be picked up by the detector. It is unlikely that the sound that you are interested in would be detected by this unit.
