I live in a desert climate where water is precious, and I also like to wash my hands in warm water. Rather than waste water waiting for it to run through the pipes from the household water heater, I installed a 1.3 gallon Camplux electric mini tank in the sink cabinet in two bathrooms. They have reliably warmed water for several years without a problem. I also hooked up a 2.5 gallon heater under the kitchen sink to wash dishes in hot water. It also has worked very well. I told friends and ended up installing these heaters for two more families. The Camplux mini water heater is a good product!
