Rubio is the best, versatile finish
I’ll always be a Rubio fan. It’s easy to apply, forgiving, and durable. While it’s expensive, it goes a long way due to the single application. I do like using a scraper for this but have also used towels and rags to apply it, which works well too. Over time, the cap to Part B can get sticky, so I’d recommend cleaning the threads on that after each use.

Go to finish
I’ve been using Rubio Monocoat regularly, and it has quickly become one of my go-to finishes. It’s easy to apply, dries quickly, and the walnut color gives wood a beautiful, natural look that really enhances the grain. The finish is durable and holds up well over time, which makes it great for both small projects and larger pieces. I also appreciate that it’s eco-friendly compared to traditional stains. A bit more expensive than some options, but the quality and results are worth it.

Rubio Monocoat on Counters
We used Rubio Monocoat Oil plus 2c (pure) on our Acacia Wood Butcher Block kitchen counters. It was the natural look I wanted without the sheen and plastic look you get from polys. It was easy to apply and the product went far! It took about half a 350ml kitchen to cover over 32' of counters. We only applied one coat. First few pics show before and after. We were pretty careful about not letting spills on it for long. A year later we had just 2 marks (also pictured). We lightly sanded them down and applied another coat, again supper easy. Last Pic is a year later with the second coat. Marks sanded out and are gone. We love our counters and recommend this product! Smell is actually pleasant as well!

Works well
It works really well. The application is easy, and the finish dries to a smooth, natural-looking surface. I love how the wood grain pops without looking overly glossy. The smell is mild compared to other finishes, and the coverage is excellent. It gives my table a clean and professional look.

Excellent Product, with a minor caveat...
Excellent finish. Food safe and fairly durable. Easy to apply and buff. I left the countertop un-touched for 1 week. Liquid beads right up. No grain raising. I used it on a teak butcher block style countertop. The "pure" brought out the color I was looking for. Only 2 complaints (hence the 4 stars), one was the instructions were way too small. Had to use my phone as a magnifier...ugh. A link to a PDF would fix that. The other was that no whee in the instructions does it say not to pour the part B into the part A can. Here in the states, its customary to always mix 2 part mixes in the larger can. DON'T DO IT! So that was an issue. I was able to salvage enough for my project. It reminds me of what we called "hardening oil" back in the day ('60s) that we would mix up. Not food safe chemicals though...lol Other than those two minor issues, I'll be using this from now on as needed. Highly recommend. Remember, this is a "treatment" to protect the wood from liquid and stains. It is NOT a "finish" (like a poly) that puts a protective layer on top of the wood.

Love this product!
If I could give this product 10 stars- I would. Was extremely easy to use. It has minimal to no odor at all. I purchased the shell gray stain with accelerator to use on birch butcher block countertops. If you follow the exact directions provided on the manufacturer’s website you can’t mess up. I combined the 2 bottles in a cup, mixed well. Used the plastic scrapers to apply even coat of the product all over the surface. Make sure you work with smaller areas. Spread the product; wait 5-ish minutes and buff it off. Used a sponge brush for crafts to coat the edges then wiped those after 5 mins. I used the blue shop towels to buff off any excess product. Application wasn’t messy and it was extremely easy to work with. After buffing off excess, it took about 45mins-1 hour for the butcher blocks to feel dry to touch. The stain dries to matte finish. I purchased the small bottle+ (130ml) and that was enough to finish an 8ft x 2ft + 2x 4ft x 2ft slabs of butcher block. The color of the stain came out a bit darker than what was shown on the pictures provided with the product- but I did expect it to vary, considering my butcher blocks aren’t made of oak wood as the sample in the picture is. Mine came out darker than shown, and I’m very happy that was the case. Reason why I picked this product is 1) because of its fast curing time. The counters should be fully cured in 5-7 days. Ready for installing and light use after 2 days. 2) huge upside- it only needs re-seasoning every 5 years. 3) does great to protect counters from staining. And it’s virtually completely water proof. This was extremely important since I’ll be using them in my kitchen. All in all- perfect product- fast cure time- easy to use.

If you are a Blacktail Studio follower, you know what you are buying. This stuff produces extremely hard-wearing protection layers on hardwoods. My home's stairs - after three years of hard, daily use - still look beautiful. The trick of the trade is to use TINY amount of it and work it well using a soft sponge pad (open or closed pores) on RO. Meticulous prep (sanding, water pop, blowing the dust, etc) is a key to achieve fantastic results.
