It does however say on the box that it works on critters like squirrels and groundhogs, so it might work on gophers. When we had gophers in the past we used moth balls and put them down their holes. **Q: If I close the hose pressure, does it allow me to approach my own garden?** A: Once the hose is turned off we recommend waving your hand in front of the unit to drain the water from the hose. To turn the unit off the sensitivity dial can be placed between the 9 and the 1. **Q: is the step-in stake plastic or metal** A: The step in stake is plastic, but well designed, and plenty strong for many years of use. The sprinkler heads are the weakest part of the entire system. I have three of these and one of the crow units, and the crow lasted one season, and broke where the water hose connects, and I thought I could work around that this Spring and use it by strapping it to a stake, but is just won't work at all now.Two of the Havahart uniits still work, but both have issues with the rotation part of the sprinkler head, but they still seem to work on the critters (just the sound of it going off scares most critters off). Both of the two that still work just stay stationary now (spray straight ahead, don't rotate), but the sprinkler heads look pretty generic, so going to try to find a better quality head to replace them with.The third Havahart unit still works on the motion detecting part (the light comes on), but it does not spray water anymore. These things work better than anything else I have tried (other than manning the garden 24/7 with a 22 rifle), so it's a shame they are not better made. Just be warned that the product needs to be turned on to charge and the first charge took about a week (in UK weather) before it would have enough power. When it gets going it is impressive but you may want to inform guests if they venture into the garden! ### ⭐ 1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid- Waste of money! *by B***D on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 August 2015* Having looked at reviews of this item, I was concerned about the specification of the hose connector - is it standard BSP or a USA fitting? The cheaper alternatives such as 'PestBye' and 'Defenders' had such varied reviews that I decided to order the 'Havahart Spray Away'. I used a 3/4" BSP Draper Accessory Connector (Stock No. 89386) - this screws into the Spray Away with the filter gasket in place. However, the female hose connection ISN'T a perfect BSP fit and needs sealing with PTFE tape to stop the hose bursting off under water pressure. I found that the spike stand on it's own was not rigid enough to resist wind moving the unit slightly, causing 'false alarms' so I used bricks to steady it and this solved the problem. Apart from the hose connector problem, I am impressed with the quality of this item - hopefully it will do it's job should a predator arrive to admire my pond!UPDATE- I don't recommend this product.(1 star) Mine is already broken and useless. It doesn't use UK fittings for water supply connection so it requires a 'botch up' to use it. Therefore, IT SHOULD NOT BE SOLD IN THE UK. I have now bought the 'Home Defence ScareCrow' to replace it - which is a far superior product and available through Amazon. ### ⭐⭐⭐ 3.0 out of 5 stars A product that requires connection to a hose should be easily connected to a hose... *by W***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 24 July 2015* The device itself seems to work fine. Early days so not sure about reliability as it seems fairly lightweight and no weather sealing around the battery compartment so judgement is being reserved.The issue with the product is the hose connection. It requires a screw fitting which is not supplied and is not readily available. Once I did source the correct connector it became apparent that the screw threading on the SprayAway is not deep enough to hold in the connector. The only way to make it hold was to remove the filter and rubber seal (giving more depth on the screw threads) and use a large amount of plumbing tape to make the seal watertight. I don't expect a product to need botching in order to make it work.The power of the water jet is good and the sensor seems responsive.
