It's actually my second of this model - the first had horrible issues with the thread getting tangled in the bobbin ...
I've had this machine for 5 months now. It's actually my second of this model - the first had horrible issues with the thread getting tangled in the bobbin housing, making it unusable. I figured it was a lemon and returned it (Amazon's customer service was awesome as usual, full refund), then reordered the same model. The 2nd one has been great. I'm still learning how to use some of the fancier features (my previous machines were more basic). I have been sewing for many years, and I make all sorts of things including: clothes for me and my kids, toys, costumes, household items, quilting, etc. Since I got this machine, I have been sewing an average of a couple hours a week. I've used woven cotton, flannel, fleece, knits, upholstery fabric, felt, PUL, and others with no problems. I'm very happy with this machine!ETA (9/6/15): I've now had this machine over a year, and I seriously regret buying it. At about 6 months it started having issues. I would lower the presser foot in order to sew... and the light stayed red and refused to start. At first this only happened occasionally, but it gradually became more frequent until the machine was completely unusable. I don't have a local Juki dealer, so to get it serviced under the warranty, I had to call Juki. At first they tried to insist that Amazon had to repair it (Hah! The idiot on the phone didn't seem to know who or what "Amazon.com" is.). Finally they sent me a shipping label to mail it in. It took several weeks to get repaired and sent back. Since then it works, sort of. I'm still having problems with it off and on. The thread is getting caught somewhere inside the machine, causing it to tangle and break. I'm trying to decide whether to do battle with Juki again, or just take it to a local repair shop and foot the bill myself :-/ Final conclusion: Warranty service from Juki is a royal pain in the neck. DO NOT buy this machine if you do not have a local Juki shop to take it to for repairs. Even then, use caution.

Nice stitch but some irritating quirks
I've sewn for a long time, and have had many machines. I purchased this machine for sewing apparel so that the timing doesn't get thrown off by utility jobs. It has a nice stitch, and has nice programmable features. The letters aren't as amazing as they seem. They'll get the job done for putting initials in gym shorts, but it's not high quality monogramming. It's not the best machine though, and I think my 1950s singer does a better job (although with a LOT less options). I'm frustrating by a couple things: in the middle of a job the thread will get pulled so taught it breaks (I think it gets caught on something inside the machine), the thread will randomly catch on the bobbin and need to be re-threaded. Changing the stitch length also causes issues. I may have to take it into the mechanic to have it checked out.

Juki HZL-K85 Sewing Machine
Love this sewing machine. It sews very well and the variety of stitches are fantastic. The instructions are very easy to understand, as we all know, some of them are so confusing. I'm also please that I can slow the stitch down or speed it up. I highly recommend this product.

A Great All-Around Sewing Machine
I've been sewing for 33 years and this is my first electronic sewing machine. I love it. Its easy to thread, change bobbins, the auto-matic needle threader (great for my 46 year-old eyes). It can sew basic letters and numbers, which look pretty good. The stretch stitch sews knits easily no problems and no ripples...I plan to use this a lot when I don't feel changing the color of my threads on my Juki MO644D serger. The needle up/down feature is great, speed control great...its very quiet too! Solidly built and EASY to operate. Great manual, lots of feet/accessories and even an instructional DVD. Overall this is a fantastic sewing machine....I LOVE JUKI!!!

Tension on the bobbin thread appears to be correct and the top tension has been adjusted for a beautiful stitch, but it will onl
The bobbin cradle is plastic and sits loosely under to floor plate. It jumps out of it's socket and locks up the machine. The floor plate is very difficult to remove due to location of the screw holes. Tension on the bobbin thread appears to be correct and the top tension has been adjusted for a beautiful stitch, but it will only sew for about 10-12 inches before locking up. We have experimented with different tension adjustments and achieved a great stitch. Still it locks up. Have had it looked at and worked with by a man in the business, and he believes that there is a defect in the bobbin assembly.

Good for occasional sewing
Returned it, didn't think it was heavy duty enough for my needs. I bought a different Juki which is superb. IMO this is a light duty model. Good for occasional sewing. If you ask alot of your machine, might be wise to buy a more heavy duty model.

Juki HSL-K85,great machine
So far so good,I have just been sewing with it for about three weeks and it has done a fine job,I sew every day about 6 to 8 hrs.The brother I returned lasted me about two months before it tore up.so I am sure hoping this Juki can stand up to my expectations. I know this is not an expensive machine but it sure sews like one,it is light weight but just heavy enough to stay in place.I love it and sure hope it stands up to my heavy use.Well worth the price.

Bobbin Casing problems.
I bought this sewing machine back in 2014 to replace my beautiful 1980's signer that my mom wanted back. I've had nothing but problems with the bobbin casing. It moves around too much, it has plenty of holes from my needles puncturing it. I'm constantly stopping through projects to adjust it and put it back in place.I was really excited within the first month of sewing with this, but I completely regret buying it now and after see some other reviews; I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to go look for a new machine. I guess if you want a Juki, stick with industrial.
