Do Not Disturb is the band's 13th studio album and was recorded in the closing months of 2015 and the Spring of 2016. A true group effort, Peter Hammill, Hugh Banton and Guy Evans continue to follow in the tradition of Van Der Graaf Generator by delivering an album that is both powerful and possesses and emotive beauty. Do Not Disturb is another highlight of the band's career, during which their music has been influential on successive generations of musicians. It is surely one of the key album releases of 2016. Mastered and cut at Abbey Road studios, this 180 gram vinyl release of Do Not Disturb is limited.

sad farewell
the production is good. The music is tedious. Never moves or flows.

Soft yet progressive
Van der Graaf Generator - Do Not Disturb (Esoteric)A trio of elderly men still making some of the most innovative songs anywhere to be found. Although I still miss David Jackson’s saxophone, the fabulous vocals and lyrics of Peter Hammill remain the mainstay of this band. And to this the organ and bass and, yes, the accordion of Hugh Banton and Guy Evans drumming, and the instrumentation is complete along with Peter’s piano and guitar. The songs. How often can the terms “soft” and “progressive” be used in the same sentence to describe a band’s music? Sudden and abrupt changes in a song’s direction seem natural and not forced.Their last CD, “Alt” was easy enough to ignore, but “Do Not Disturb” demands your attention. With some of the finest lyrics you will find, these men build upon their past. They have not discarded it. You can still hear elements of “H to He Who Am the Only One” , their second album, in the multi-faceted directions of their material, although their sound is sparser without David Jackson. But it works. And it works well. Long time fans of VDGG and of Peter Hammill’s long list of solo efforts will love this CD. As for the rest of you, it’s never too late to make a new discovery.Or too old.(5 stars out of 5)MC Mahan

The Future Now
What words can I possibly convey to express the first time listening experience of this new album by VAN DER GRAFF GENERATOR?Having followed this band since 1969 with 'THE AEROSOL GREY MACHINE and all of its incarnations, you would think that you heard it allbut this album proves that they are not quite done just yet. To say that this is possibly their greatest release is humbling it's power and honesty. The musicianship after all these years is astounding with Guy Evans anchoring his drum rolls into the changing time signatures like a light switch, Hugh Banton conveying church organ refrains one minute and then hammering his keyboard into manic beauty at the drop of a hat as in the track 'ALMOST THE WORDS' and Peter Hammill whose vocals still have the power to make me weep. Is my review too over the top? TOUGH! I defy anyone to sit through the albums last track 'GO' and not be brought down to their knees by its subtlety. This is the first album in over a decade that I can't seem to eject out of my player. Click the add to cart button and be baptized by it's unforgetable beauty and power. VAN DER GRAFF GENERATOR , Long may you be!

Last album of VDGG
Van Der Graaf Generator returns with their 13th and, possibly, their last album... and what an album it is! Full of subtelties and marvelous details that demands at least two or three listens before fully appreciate the songs included in the record. My personal favorite is "(Oh No I Must Have Said) Yes", a challenging prog rock song in every sense blending a lot of styles in one track. It reminded me a lot of early King Crimson with it's jazzy section in the middle of the song.I really like this album, and if it is really their last output, I will be very happy to know that this band give their all throughout their lenghty and rewarding career.

fine wine
like a fine wine this slightly mellow group of songs grows on you as you let it sink in.not the place to start if you want to really get into this group.still a solid effort.they get points just for being around to keep at it for 4+ decades.

Amazing! How on earth do they keep doing it
Amazing! How on earth do they keep doing it? I wasn't sure they'd be able to top a grounding in numbers, but they certainly have with this release. Just buy it!!

While not breaking an exceptional amount of new ground VDGG continues on a path not related to any other artists or as redundant as many.

Interrogative

Musiciens exceptionnels.
