Product Description Victor Wooten has become a living legend on the electric bass. As a member of Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, he has been astounding audiences for years. Live in America is the album the Victor Wooten fans have been crazy for. This 2-CD specially priced set is filled with jaw-dropping performances captured at Victor's live shows over the past five years. .co.uk The downside of declining CD-manufacturing costs is that artists feel free to put out even their most ephemeral musical musings. Victor Wooten's Live in America, though full of masterful moments, has chaff amongst the wheat. There's stage patter that might have been fun if you were there, slight 1970s pop-funk ("What Did He Say" and "Hormones in the Headphones"), disco ("Yinin' and Yangin'") and Hendrix and Ozzy quotes in order to get to instrumentals such as "Sacred Silence/The Jam Man" and "Miller Time" (featuring Marcus Miller), which offer the kind of soulful and mind-altering bass guitar work that the man does best. Wooten is a willful eclectic and, as his work with Bela Fleck proves, that can be fine. Still, though the musicians do a workmanlike job here, it takes a band of equal virtuosos such as the Flecktones, and some serious editing to make this kind of genre-hopping truly work. His bandmates refer to him as "The Teacher" in his introduction and Live in America should inspire bass students to practice. It is to be hoped it will teach them the dangers of self-indulgence too. --Michael Ross

Vic W-OO-10, What More Can Any Bassist Want
Victor Wooten, is THE greatest bassist ever, and THE only person to have surpassed the late great Jaco Pastorius.I don't usually write these reviews, but i feel that as a huge fan of Vic, I needed to set Mr Ross right on a few of his facts. The chaff your talking about, and are needlessly critical of, gives this cd the party vibe of a Vic or a Flecktones concert. You then go to call Vic Teacher, when it is in fact his older brother, and guitarist Reggie Wooten who they call Teacha. Finaly worst of all you call Vic self indulgent, ask any one whos been taught by, or talked to Vic, and they will back me up on saying that he is the most down to earth person in the music industry, which is remarkable, seeing how much virtuosity he has.Its a great album, great vibe and great bass playin, with great guests (Bootzilla, M2), a great buy for any bassist or music fan.

Awesome bass playing - terrible songs!
I was actually very dissapointed with this album. There is some awesome bass playing from all the bassists (Miller, Bootsey etc) but whats all that 'Yo Victor' shouting rubbish? and awful guitar solos? It's worth it just for the Wooten/Miller 10 minute duet alone! So as my title suggests - awesome playing - terrible songs!
