ThermoScan 4 Digital Ear Thermometer for Kids and Adults

Easy and simple enough to use. Handle is comfortable. Reads instantly. Large numbers make it easy to read in the dark. We have a forehead thermometer but ear thermometer is still generally more accurate. Worked well when our kids had the flu and running with high fever. Our forehead scanner gave wide ranges of temperature readings and made it difficult sometimes to track progress, so accuracy was very important to us in monitoring them. This scanner is not the latest model but still worked great and cheaper.

Costs more, but really seems to give the most accurate, reliable temperatures. Our older ear thermometers (mostly Braun also), were pretty good, but always were lower than our true temperature, so we had to sort of guess what our real temperature was (we are not all 97.2 - 97.6 when we are healthy). The forehead thermometers are slightly easier and quicker, but the least accurate (my impression--but also supported by recent study on hospitalized patients).

We originally purchased the Braun ThermoScan 4 because we were completely unable to use standard oral thermometers to take temperatures without triggering a severe gag reflex. In that regard, this ear thermometer has helped tremendously and removed a lot of stress from our medical cabinet. However, there is a catch you should know before buying. The Positives: Comfort & Speed: It takes the reading incredibly fast, which is a massive relief. It entirely bypasses the discomfort of having to hold an uncomfortably cold probe under your tongue for a minute straight. Build Quality: The device feels premium, has a very clear digital display, and the disposable lens filters ensure everything stays completely hygienic between family members. The Critical Catch (Why it's 4 stars): User Technique Matters: If you are untrained or don't position this correctly, you will absolutely get an inaccurate temperature reading. Ear thermometers require you to gently tug the ear back and up to straighten the ear canal so the infrared sensor can get a direct line of sight to the eardrum. Inconsistencies: If you just pop it carelessly into the outer part of the ear, the reading can easily swing low by a full degree or two. Overall, it is a fantastic, life-saving alternative for anyone who struggles with oral thermometers. Just make sure to read the user manual carefully and practice positioning it a few times so you can trust your numbers when someone is actually sick!

This Braun ear thermometer is a game-changer! It gives quick and accurate readings in just a few seconds, making it perfect for checking temperatures, especially with kids who don’t sit still. The ergonomic design makes it easy to hold and position correctly, and the disposable lens covers keep it hygienic. I’ve compared it to other thermometers, and this one is by far the most reliable. Definitely a must-have for any household!

Nice size, easy to read and fast response. But not sure how long the battery will last.

I’ve had other Braun thermometers and was not as satisfied with this one. The beeping can get confusing especially if there is a fever. Also, if you attempt to try a second reading too soon, it gives you an error. It’s ok, accurate and does the job for the price.

I’m the mom who wants to know everyone in the house exact temp several times a day when someone is sick. Braun is the brand I have found that works the most reliably. I can check every family member within minutes. (Someone posted a review showing errors, but she was not using it properly) it’s easy to use. Push once to turn on, wait for the beep. Insert in the ear and push to test the temp. Wait for the ready beep to test another person. This takes less than 15 seconds total. Very fast. I’m buying a second one for the upstairs.
