Are there any voltage restrictions? I want to use this in a 36v golf cart.

Yes. The shunt voltage range is 6.5 to 70V. The required battery charge voltage is set during setup. For example set the charge voltage to 39.6V for 36V lead acid battery Note different voltages for lithium! The manual is available for download from the website.

I am not sure what you are asking. There are three cables that come out of the SmartShunt; one is the Auxiliary, one is the Battery Positive, and one is the VE.Direct. The positive wire and the auxiliary wire can each be extended if you properly crimp another wire in place.

So even with "load -" and "battery -" terminals in the open, this is still ip65? it's ok if they are exposed? can i mount on trailer tongue?

IP65 means you won't get water and dust inside the unit. It doesn't mean the exposed terminals can't be wrecked in extreme conditions.

I use two 12v batteries wired in parallel for extended battery life. Will this monitor both batteries or "see" them as one?

The SmartShunt only has the capability to monitor one battery bank. It cannot tell how many batteries are connected to it.
