Colour Mill Oil Blend Food Colouring Black: Next Generation Oil Based Food Colours - 20 ml

This is an amazing food colouring however it does really stain your hands in the moments as it is VERY pigmented. The food colouring is oil based rather than gel colouring and so it disperses a lot quickly and efficiently. It coloured my fondant black not great which I absolutely loved. With my icing it did turn black but by pairing this with the microwave method I achieved the glossy black frosting I desired.

The buttercream turns to a really deep black which is what i wanted, i did however have to use the microwave method to achieve this (microwave the buttercream for 15 seconds and mix, it will change the composition of the buttercream but when you leave it in the fridge for at least 30 mins the consistency will be fine and for me personally its a lot better as it also eliminates any air bubbles in the buttercream). I didn’t have to use too much either but i only made a small amount which is probably why, a couple people mention it changing the taste of the buttercream which it does but not drastically, if you use too much the change of taste will be more noticeable.

Good product. The color is great

The dye actually coloured my buttercream black! I additionally used cocoa powder and left it in the fridge overnight before using it. Minus 1 star cause the consistency was super thick and I couldn’t even squeeze it out the bottle, was a nightmare to get out and very messy. Didn’t taste the food dye in the Buttercreme. Works brilliantly with the burgundy from Colour mill.
