Excellent quality filter
I have a Tetra waterfall filter that came with just an average filter pad. After a year of use it was toast. I replaced it with this one and the water quality in my koi pond has improved greatly. I just traced around the original with box cutter blade, then cut through all around. I have enough left over for another filter, but i think it will be years before i need it because this one is very thick and does great job

Easy to clean.
Like this filter a lot. Well made, sturdy, cleans easy with gardens hose and it doesn't blow apart from full force hose cleaning. (A problem I've had with other filter types). Highly recommend ๐

Hard and messy to cut, but works well
In the past, I used a sheet of Matala green filter material just in front of the pump inside my pond's skimmer box. I tried this filter material, not knowing how it would compare. First of all, this material is difficult to cut to size. There were no instructions or suggestions on how to cut it, so I tried a box cutter first. Box cutter did not work. What did work was hedge clippers - not electric, just the old fashioned scissor type manual clippers with a serrated edge. Really had to apply a lot of pressure to make the cuts, just an inch at a time. It worked, but it made a huge mess, with lots of little pieces of the blue strand material that makes up this filter. I shook it out, and also spent some time rinsing out the filter with a high pressure hose to get all the cut pieces out, so they would not get sucked into my pump and then out into the pond water. Second issue is that this filter material is more densely woven than the Matala green material I have used before. I always had to clean the Matala filter about once every 7-10 days to avoid straining my pump. With this blue Japanese filter mat, I now have to clean the filter every 3 days, which is too often for me. It clogs too quickly with algae, and the pump side of the skimmer tends to run dry after a few days because the water flow becomes too constricted. I would say that this filter material looks like it is sturdy and would probably last a long time for someone who needs a more densely woven filter. Perhaps it is equivalent to Matala blue. I can't say for sure, as I have only used Matala green. I will need to go back to using Matala green, as it is more useful for my application. It removes the algae and keeps my pond water very clear, while still maintaining adequate water flow for my waterfall pump. I deducted one star because it is messy and difficult to cut.

Works good, very hard to cut to fit though. But it does the job

Great filter material!
This is excellent filter material! It fits my Savio filter well. I did have to cut it to fit, use an electric Knife ( like what you carve a thanksgiving turkey)for best results! Really filters out the floating pond muck and suspended algae!

Works well
I bought this to use in my aquarium sump as a way to keep the pump sectioned off. It was fairly easy to cut with a pair of scissors, and works to keep things away from the pump while allowing the water to flow through fast enough for the pump.

2" thick. Thicker to trap more.
Great quality and value.
