the only book one needs on the subject
I was lucky to find this book used for a song and I grabbed it. I returned the one I had borrowed from the library because I felt compelled to underline and dog ear so many pages. VERY objective and comprehensive and provides reliable and court tested explanations, tools and mechanisms one can use. You would be wise to read this book and educate yourself even if you intend to use an attorney. You'll be able to judge the attorney better and save yourself a LOT of money. I read several books on the subject and this is my favorite. It's NO nonsense, no fiction and rooted in actual cases and the law.

authoritative and complete
Asset protection is an endeavor fraught with much dubious motivation and many snake oil salesmen. The common methods believed by laypeople are often ineffective or illegal, and the advice offered flogged by clever marketers is often overpriced and wrongly described. Even for competent lawyers who offer legitimate advice in this field, there are few who can match the author's breadth, scope, and depth of knowledge on the subject.Adkisson presents the topic legitimately, with all the seriousness and accurracy and wisdom that his considerable experience has endowed him. While this is not a checklist and forms manual, this is a strategic considerations guide that is indispensible to a complete and thorough understanding of asset protection. I have read a lot on the subject and practiced more than a little and never have I encountered such a complete and global overview of the topic, methods, motivations, and pitfalls.Any serious professional level practicer of estate planning and business entity formation should benefit from this topic. CPAs will benefit as much as lawyers and laypeople who have the wealth that needs protecting will do well to read it too. This book packs a hell of a bang for the buck, that's for sure.

Pretty good book for attorneys or other professionals
Pretty good book for attorneys or other professionals. The book could, however, use an update. Regardless, Asset Protection by Jay Adkisson is the best book, in the under $50 price range and otherwise, that I've found on the topic of offshore trusts and asset protection planning.

Outstanding research book!!!! Asset Protection
Asset Protection, is a outstanding book that is so underpriced it borders being vulgar....I would have paid one hundred dollars (american dollars) easy to get this information!! Why? Because of my distrust of lawyers in general, and my current attempts to move assets offshore, in 6 numerial digits, and the fact, that the historical treaties, internationally, have been changed, in the past five (5) years makes the " intelligent ignorant" to be a highly informed consumer in this high risk game of con games or"bilking" as defined by Jay Robert Nash in "Hustlers and Con Men" (1976) ISBN 0-87131-188-7 such as "Bilk" defined on page 339 as"to victimize in a con game". I highly recommend this book "Asset Protection" for any USA citizen, especially if you are considering the route of being a "ex-patriot"!!!!! Protecting Wealth Through Tested Techniques
The authors (Adkisson & Riser) define asset protection as a type of risk management designed to minimize losses due to lawsuits. This is a Darwinian field in that creditors persistently try to find fatal weaknesses in an asset protection program and only the fit programs survive. Programs can be developed using strategies of known efficacy. These programs are supported by case law, albeit the asset protection element is usually an unintended consequence. Programs based on case law are normally robust. A second category involves elements not yet settled in court. This category is often heavily advertised by promoters, like offshore trusts. Yet another category involves novel applications of techniques previously unconsidered for asset protection purposes. One takeaway is that an attorney seasoned in such matters may well construct a robust asset protection program composed of a concentric series of tested strategies. In combination such a program can serve to minimize the client's exposure to loss of assets.

It was OK...
Being in the financial services I am always looking for new and exciting books in my field...sadly, this is not one of them. The book was dry and made for a long read. The upside is that the authors seem to know what they are talking about and are able to explain the ideas behind a variety of different asset protection strategies. The authors also explain the benefits and drawbacks of each asset protection strategy, though they do not go into very much detail on some of their ideas. One of the reasons is probably because at the end of the book, they provide their website as a reference. I don't have a problem with that, but it would have been nice if they had been able to make the information more interesting so that you didn't feel like you had to go to their website to "get the good stuff".

Above the Norm
Asset protection is a good practical sense guide on the areas of trust, business entities and a dose of reality. If your at a point where the accumulated assets is worth protecting for yourself, spouse, kids and family then this is the book to read. Its not too technical but down to earth business sense. I find this book is geared to people that have some familarity with the business environment. If you know why you want to protect your assets then this book is the next step.

Excellent book. Everyone with any assets should at lease peruse it. Well worth the few dollars to save thousands.Even if you plan to see an estate attorney, you should review the book in order to address your own concerns and ask intelligent questions.Keep this right alongside your family albums, or your bible, or kuran, or complete works of Shakespeare.
