What can I say? After a 13-year long wait from the original movie released in 2009, we finally get the first sequel to Avatar. These Avatar films were made for the big screen, especially IMAX. That said, even on a 4K TV via Blu-ray, the visuals still look absolutely stunning, especially the underwater scenes! The Avatar sequel that made over $2.32 billion at the global box office doesn't lie. With several new character introductions, new Na'vi tribes, fantastic new places in Pandora to explore, new exotic Pandoran sea life, all of which are quite refreshing, but all Avatar actors and their motion-cap performances, and the special FX steal the show. The plot picks up several years after the original where Avatar Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and his mate Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) now have a full blown family w/ kids, all fighting to survive against militaristic humans who have come back to Pandora, including a "revived" Colonel Quaritch (Stephen Lang) as a cloned Avatar himself, dead set on exterminating the entire Sully family and the Na'vi tribes who protect them. Actress Sigourney Weaver is also back in a different (related) role, but you'll have to watch the film to find out exactly how. Just like the first film, prepare for lots of action, riveting, emotional dialog, decent character development, and stunning visual F/X. Fair warning though, if you wear your heart on your sleeve at all, you might want some tissues handy for this one... Don't get me wrong, this movie is not without its flaws. For one its quite long, a little over three hours. However, if you enjoyed the first film and own it on DVD or Bluray, you'll enjoy this sequel in your collection as well. There's extra commentaries, interviews, and behind-the-scenes footage of how they made the film on the Bluray disc that you can't get anywhere else, so its well worth owning on Bluray. Highly Recommended.
