Japanese Bible Colloquial Version (Japanese Edition)

This is good for an immersion learning approach
I knew I didn’t want a bilingual Bible, because then I’m not actually learning the language. It is too easy to rely on the English to understand. Plus I know the Bible pretty well so I already know the context. The furigana is nice and one reason I chose this one over other Bibles, though it is really tiny and can be hard to see. If you have poor nearsight, you may not be able to benefit from the furigana. Still a very nice Bible. Good build quality. Sturdy, yet flexible. The flexcover makes it easy to clip pens to it. I use it to keep my stylus handy for writing all the kanji that I read onto my tablet. By the way, a 7 to 8 inch tablet is the perfect compliment for this Bible. I love this Bible. It has been a real blessing from God.

AWESOME!! IT HAS FURIGANA!!
This is for any Christian wanting to learn more about God and the Japanese language. It's slightly out-of-date language (but then again so it's King James ver. with the Old English) so this is the Old Japanese. At first I had difficulty recognizing the letter 'i' in the Furigana text (the small text above the Kanji or beside of), but after further reading I found out it was kind of different from what I'm used to. The Furigana are not hard to read if you're eyesight is good. This is also an excellent tool to practice your reading out loud and (to me at least) get details from the Bible that usually escape you (i.e. river positions in Eden, Cain's mark, and later tiny stories within Genesis), you also learn new Japanese words by having another Bible beside you. It is truly enjoyable to me since I'm on my third language. The price, WORTH IT! why? because is very VERY difficult to find a Bible with Furigana so you can learn the Kanji. The Bible is portable, very compact, slightly think, and has two strings so you know where you left off. ANY CHRISTIAN interested in Japanese, I recommend this Bible, and put effort and time to learn about God and this Nation's language since they know too little about Him who came for them!

I really loved this bible
Even though my knowledge of Japanese language is little, I really loved this bible.*The vertical writing is more "literary" (top to down and right to left)*The Bible must be read from right cover to left cover (like a Manga)*It is used a consistent Furigana (Kanji pronunciation in Hiragana)*Font size isn't tiny*The maps is indeed simple*Despite being an used Bible, it is in excellent condition

Easy-to-use Bible with furigana
Love this Bible! It's written the traditional way, vertical text read right to left. The furigana is abundant and not too small, as is the verse numbering. The text is somewhere around an upper intermediate level. A great way to combine Bible study with language study!

A Good Translation For Native Japanese
I am an American student of Japanese and I bought two of these bibles, one for me and another for my Japanese friend who was interested in reading the bible. He said that it was a good "sense" translation. The smaller kanji characters under the title actually mean something like common language. Several of my Japanese friends have also read other Japanese translations and they said that this one was more like actual Japanese instead of the archaic language used in others. Naturally, since the bible is foreign to them a lot of the concepts were still difficult to understand but the simple and "more natural" language helped. It has really been helpful for me also to read this version because it has helped me learn the style of Japanese writing. Overall I think this is a pretty good book.

this Bible is good and not too hard for my Japanese level
I ordered this Japanese Bible because the website that provides the audio Bible uses this version of Bible. I can read this Bible when listening to the audio from this website.I give this Bible 4 stars because of the font being a bit too small, particularly the furigana, very tiny. I could not find this Bible in a bigger version, so I had to order this one. Other than that, this Bible is good and not too hard for my Japanese level. This website offers audio Bible in different languages including English (KJV), Chinese (Mandarin & Cantonese), Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and Indonesian. People who want to listen to the foreign languages along with reading Bible, can make use of this website, which is free :http://www.wordplanet.org/en_1/01/1.htm

A good first step?
Thank you for making a Japanese bible! But we need an updated translation. A japanese friend of mine (who grew up in Japan) flipped thruogh this bible, and said the language was hard to read, and there were words she didn't recognize. What we really need is a Magna version of the bible. That is what everyone grows up reading, that is what they are used to reading, that is the style of literature they are comfortable with. Is anyone doing such a thing? How bout it, JBS?
