Great product, comprehensive instructions
I bought this reluctantly, along with yoghurt starter from the same company, after months of difficulty sourcing a similar Canadian product I've been using for years. Glad I did. Not only is it less expensive, it works at least as well and the instructions are far better, including details on how to make subsequent batches from the original starter. Plus, it arrived quickly and with no fuss. Highly recommended.

BEST STARTER I HAVE TRIED
THIS STARTER MAKES THE BEST KEFIR I HAVE USED. IT IS VERY MILD AND NOT TOO ACIDIC. I RECULTURE USUALLY 3 GALLONS OF WHOLE MILK. I USE 1.5 LITER GLASS AND ADD ABOUT 1 CUP PREMADE KEFIR AND FILL WITH COLD MILK. COVER AND LET STAND ON COUNTER OVERNITE. I CHECK THE NEXT DAY UNTIL IT HAS THICKENED ON TOP AND TASTE WITH SPOON. I POOR OFF ONE QUART AND I PINT IN JARS AND PUT IN FRIG. I FILL WHAT IS LEFT IN LARGE JAR WITH COLD MILK AND REPEAT PROCEDURE. THIS HAS WORKED GREAT FOR ME AFTER 6 MONTHS OFTRYING DIFFERENT METHODS. I COVER THE JARS WITH JAR LIDS AND COFFE FILTERS. AFTER 3 GALLONS I START NEW CULTURES WITH NEW STARTER.

Makes slimy, gooey kefir..
I've been making kefir at home for over 15 years, tried different brands of freeze-dried sachets and also grains. Never came across a product like this one. I opened 3 sachets out of the box and each time the same result - it turns the milk into this slimy, gooey thing, definitely not kefir. Don't waste your money.

I used regular whole milk on the gallon and only brought the milk to a somewhat high temperature then let it sit or cool for about 15 min then pour it in a glass container then pour the culture stirred it and closed it put it in a warm spot let it sit for 36 hrs and then got my first batch, grains had already form so now am growing them and using daily!!

Used Skim Milk
I ordered it because i just wanted to try a small amount at a reasonable price. First batch made with Skim milk took 48 hours. It was kept warm with ie magic bags. I used glass jar and a coffee filter lid. Results mild and delicious- commercial products taste more like buttermilk which I also like. The next batch made from 2 tablespoons of the 1st was put in fridge by mistake for a couple of hours but recused heated up and was ready in just a few hours.
