Excellent option to replace the common shaver
I bought this electric shaver a year ago and used it almost daily. It is a very good option if you are looking to replace the conventional shaver. It has two speeds and three spares, one for shaving and two for cutting. It also has a charger. In the time I have been using it, I can say that it works quite well, the battery lasts a long time, it can be used with dry or wet skin and with a single pass eliminates the hair.If it is true that it does not remove the hair as close to the root as normal shaving, but it is more agile and less aggressive for the skin.

good razor...
I had to ask my husband about this item before I could review it. He says it works well and he has no complaints. A good solid choice if you are looking for a razor.

OK shaver
Updated 9/19/23I upped the rating to 4 stars. I'm going to chalk issues up to my face and beard. It shaves my head nicely. I need to wait 2.5-3 days between shaves to get good results on my face.Updated 9/8/23After a couple of weeks, it’s not shaving nearly as good as it did initially. It irritates my skin, pulls whiskers. I keep it clean, charged, and always use a pre electric shave. I might be sending this one back.—Original Review—I have an incredibly sensitive face. Even safety razors irritate, though not nearly as bad as cartridges. Below will be considered heresy to safety razor purists. The first time I used this shaver...I was NOT impressed. I used shave soap and there were lots of spots I had to hit with my DE. I tried dry shaving with it. I did not like it. Irritated my face. Then I bought Lectric shave pre-electric shave. This is a game changer.I have two recommendations for shaving with this unit: Use some sort of pre-electric shave product. Not shaving cream or soap. Don't press hard when shaving. Take a little time and just keep shaving. I still hit problem areas with a blade, but the whiskers aren't visible. I just want it a bit smoother.Rinsing the head works great. Most of the whiskers come out using the "gills." That said, I take the foil head off, rinse under the faucet, tap on my hand, and remaining whiskers come out. When I'm satisfied it's clear, I place on a hand towel and allow it to dry before reattaching to the shaving unit.I think the Braun Series 5 is a very good value. It shaves parts of my face better than a DE. I think a smaller shaving head gives better access to the lip and under the nose, for example. Combine it with an electric pre-shave product and you'll get a close shave with little to no irritation. I even shaved my head with this. I'm sticking with my safety razor for my head, but the results from the Series 5 are actually really good.

Awesome!
It is awesome! I bought the 5020s, which comes with a trimmer with 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 leveled plastic trim heads. The difference between options are (without the trimmers), (with plastic trimmers), and (metal trimmers, I believe). Before 5020, I used Braun Cruzer 3 and then Braun Cruzer 5 totaling about 15 years. I was looking for a shaver around 40-50 bucks but decided to go for the extra. I have been using it for month.I shave every other day, and shave it super clean (i.e. any feel of the tiniest beard is unacceptable for me). My cheeks are alright and easy to shave but my neck beard grows irregularly, in I, W, Z ways, it is crazy. Normally, I was using the razor to shave the 2 days old neck-beard, and then using the machine to make it smooth. So shaving was always a problem for me.5020 is awesome because I almost don't use the razor at all anymore. It can shave my whole face with 95-98% perfectness. If you are a regular shaver, that should be more than enough; it is just my obsession to make it 100%. I can be totally fine if I am on a rush and leave it like that. Thus, it is absolutely perfect for my daily shaving. In my first use, I had a week old beard (my beard grows really fast with medium thickness). It pulled the hairs a couple of times, but I believe I wasn't adjusted yet. Using it just a bit slowly and gently was much better, then had no problem.Yesterday, I also used the trimmer part with 3 and 5 mm option to shave the sides of my head and it was better than my Braun BT3020 beard trimmer. Transition between the levels are pretty smooth and much better than my so-called barber/butcher's work.Another positive thing is that it creates just a little bit of beard dust, about 10% of the previous machines that I used. Cleaning the machine is much easier. Just put it under water. I opened the head and there was no beard dust at all.May be the only negative thing is that the machine is not elegant and easy to control. Both the handle and the head is pretty big and it feels bigger than it should feel on your face. Not a problem for me but, feels weird. I guess the upper series, 7 and 9, are slicker and feels better at hand, but do the cost/benefit analysis.

Really NICE A++
Shaves great . No skin irritation even dry . I don't have a beard like a wire brush so can't speak for very heavy bearded dudes . Being retired and not working I shave like every other day . This unit does the job quickly and no muss no fuss . I rate this shaver A++ . Trims well also . Plus the charging base makes this choice the winner in the Series 5 line up for sure .

Works good where needed when it works
Intermittent Infant failure. It started locking up in less than two months of use.Works great when it works and does better than a manual shaver when it comes to shaving around curves. The braun technology is good for getting close without nicking skin etc. It’s less than two years old and the locking up problem that first surfaced in the first month of use has slowly gotten worse to where it can’t be depended on.What happens is when it is first turned on it might lock up and to clear it, it has to be plugged in for a second and that can be a hassle if you’re in the shower because it has to be plugged in to the power source (115vac) when clearing out the lockup. Let’s see how they make good on their two year warranty.I’ll be back.8/27/25I'M BACK 2 years later. The problem got worse to where it had to be charged every other time. I got Braun to give me an RMA fairly easy eventhough the only way was via the web site that didn't work right but a person eventually took my call and handled it painlessly. They sent a shipping label so I'll know when I get it back, hopefully before long.02/10/2026I’m back with a final update. I sent it in for repair but it’s still defective. It still fails but in a different way. The battery low indicator is always full then one day it doesn’t work and needs the charger plugged in to reset it. So I will have to buy another shaver. This shaver was great because it didn’t hurt in sensitive areas due to the foil-like head that keeps sharp blades from making contact with skin. Too bad the warranty department didn’t do their job.

Finally a nice close shave with no irritation!!!
I just got this Braun Series 5 5050cs an hour ago. It came fully charged which was cool. I went in and tried it out and was overjoyed with the results. I've got an old Braun shaver that belonged to my Dad, it's beat up and held together with tape....but did a fair job but the battery was gone and had to stay plugged in. I also had a Norelco triple head rotary type shaver that runs very slow and doesn't cut worth a hoot. Both of them are now in the trash can. In just a couple minutes with my NEW Braun I had a super smooth shave. No irritation since I didn't have to work hard to get it done. Even with a good double edge disposable razor which I use in the shower, it's harder to get a smooth shave under my chin and around my neck. The only problem is that it got my whiskers down so low that it's going to be TWO days before I can shave again! You can't go wrong with this one. Only wish it had a travel case or bag of some type, but it does have a good protective cap for the shave heads so I can work it out. Extremely happy with this razor.

Problematic
Original 2021 review: I have had this razor about 6 months. Was happy at first. It did seem to give a close shave but took a lot longer than my old Norelco shaver. Then it started to cause razor burn on my neck, getting progressively worse as well as not shaving as close as originally. 6 months in, it is pulling and taking off pieces of skin to the point where they bleed. Given I can do that with a cheap safety razor AND get a closer shave, I am very disappointed with this shaver.2023 Update: Having launched on the quest to find a razor that didn't snag and burn, I did not like the result this shaver was giving me. Since this purchase, I have purchased a Panasonic that worked reasonably well. Still some burn, however. Online research yielded some suggestions and I ended up using razor oil to lube the heads and Cremo shaving cream. Much better performance from the Panasonic razor resulted. After a year, I thought I would try the Braun using the oil and Cremo. I must now apologize to Braun. Using these two preshave items has completely resolved any issues with the Braun and , in fact, the Braun gives a very satisfactory close shave with no burn or pulling. Who knew? If you are an old codger like me, electric razor shavers do not work as well as they did on the younger version of yourself. Oiling the heads and using the Cremo brand shave cream will definitely improve your shave.Update. so razor is approximately 2 yrs old. I didn't use it for about 12 months while I use the Panasonic. Found the razor oil solution and have been shaving with it for about 4 months now. Picked it up this morning and no power. Tried to charge and still no power after 30 minutes. Then I noticed water dripping out of the charge port. I have not dropped it, I rinsed the heads as directed under the faucet but it is advertised as waterproof. Supposedly you can shave with it in the shower.Very disappointed with this shaver to say the least.

I am happy with the product and delivery
I've been using for two weeks now. I find it satisfactory. The backup is good cos it does not need to charge till now after initial charging. The handling is also comfortable, and shaving is quite smooth.

Good clean shave and very easy to clean
This is the best shaver for me. It provided a very clean shave (for my face shape) and the best feature was the ease of cleaning. I liked that the normal cleaning ritual was simply to run the shaver under the tap. Best of all, the price was very affordable and delivery was pronto. Super happy with the sleek shaver.
