that scepticism was soon blown away when I tested the torch for the first time and everything that I was expecting to flouresce
I didn't purchase this device with its marketed intention in mind at all, but more as a quick testing device on flourescent and phosphorescent minerals, and also as a detector of repair and restoration adhesives and other compounds used in restoration, given that the specific long wave UV range of 365 - 370nm in the Peedar is far more effective for this these purposes than the countless cheaper or dubiously labelled 'more powerful' portable UV lights operating in the long wave 395 - 400nm range and seen for sale on Amazon and everywhere else.Have to say that at first I was a little sceptical as to just how effective the Peedar would be for the purposes that I had in mind for it, simply BECAUSE it was so cheap! One could normally expect 365 - 370nm devices in general being a lot more expensive. However, that scepticism was soon blown away when I tested the torch for the first time and everything that I was expecting to flouresce lit up like Blackpool Illuminations, and without having to shine the torch only inches away, too! This device therefore works, and VERY effectively. The Peedar is also nicely compact in design (it'll go in just about any pocket) but it's very sturdy and water-resistant, too.Given that my own uses for the torch aren't exactly performed in the fluffy comfort of the home, I wanted to really check this thing out and again I was initially sceptical as to how it would withstand the rigours of performance beyond merely looking for Fido's 'little accident', particularly as I noted that the torch is made in China! That's not a racist thing going on, just a hard fact of life nowadays that many Chinese products simply don't make the grade. Again though, I was more than pleasantly surprised to find that the Peedar will more than adequately stand up to 'destructive testing' to confirm its' general durability. I did three tests...First, I deliberately dropped it from a height of about 2m on to a concrete surface whilst it was switched on and ok, the black enamel scratched slightly but the torch itself didn't dent in any way and simply bounced, and all 9 UV LED bulbs just carried on lighting things up. Find me another cheaper UV device on the market that'll do that...I already wasted a few quid on eBay and both devices bought there failed miserably.Secondly, spending a good half-hour out in the garden late at night in the pouring rain with the Peedar proved its' water resistance. Yes ok, one wouldn't be doing that normally to look for pet pee, but one might do if mineral hunting out in the wilderness at night or hunting down the damn slugs on the cabbage patch if that's your thing! Both the front bulb unit on this torch and the back flick-button unit screw down tightly on to tight silicone O-rings strategically seated at the ends of the threads and at these points at least, it simply doesn't let water in. I didn't actually immerse either the front lens or the entire torch IN to water, but then it's not designed to be used underwater and its' water resistance in that respect would be likely affected by temperature anyway. Finally, I loaded new Duracells, turned on the torch and then left it turned on in a cold workshop. A little over 6 1/2 hours later the LED bulbs were only just beginning to noticeably dim - and that says a lot about not only the running economy of the device but also the quality of the fitted bulbs.Hence on the face of all this, time will tell if the Peedar behaves just as efficiently in the depths of winter out there ,or indeed if it'll have 'staying power' in terms of life-span, but so far after 2 weeks of fairly intense use both in and outdoors it's proved to be the best £20 that I've spent on a tool (or indeed any kind of battery-operated torch) for a long time. And yes it does work on Fido's 'accident', too - what fun one could have with it at the Glastonbury Festival!Just one note of caution: as stated on the packaging, the use of UVA/UVB protective glasses is strongly advised with this device, Many unscrupulous vendors will claim that long wave UV light, unlike short wave UV, does not harm the eyes. This isn't necessarily accurate as prolonged or repeated exposure to LW UV has been shown to be at least partly responsible for the formation of cataracts. Hence unless you're willing to risk your sight being damaged peering hard for that final little old drop of dried-up pee or whatever, adequate CLEAR glass or polycarbonate eye protection with a minimum standard to EN166 with range UV400 is a worthwhile and complimentary investment along with the Peedar to ensure safety - despite its size, this little torch shines a deceptively powerful beam of UV. For another tenner, you can find the perfect eye protectors on Amazon - simply search "NATO Spec. Forceflex 3000" or link here: NATO Spec. Forceflex 3000 ALMOST UNBREAKABLE Safety Spectacles. TRANSLUCENT GREY Frame with Clear HC Lens. UV400. Put these two products together (or either one) and be confident that it'll be one of the best Amazon orders you've made this year. And no, they're not paying me to say any of this!

The light at the end of the tunnel
Although this black light flashlight is marketed as a urine stain detector I purchased it for another purpose. Two months ago I took in a small malnourished approximately 9 week old stray kitten who wandered into our garden. He was hungry and flea infested and I felt sorry for him. I fixed him up with plenty of food and parasite control. He soon proved to be affectionate and utterly grateful for his rescue from his previously feral state. He showered upon us(my dog and I) love and cuddles and tenderness and to this end he gave us both a scorching case of RINGWORM.Sigh. No good deed goes unpunished. When I finally copped to this and brought both he and my poor dog to the vet he confirmed that he did indeed carry ringworm as under the Wood's lamp he merrily lit up like a fibre optic Christmas tree. So the dog and I had our lesions and the cat had none. He was christened Typhoid Mat. Mat got his treatment and so did I and the poor long suffering dog. But waiting in between visits to the vet to get checked under the lamp proved frustrating. I did not know where lay spores at home either. I read online that black light showed up ringworm spores and since I knew that the kind we had glowed under flourescent light I bought this lovely little number. I was able to see spores on my arm, spores in the cat's ears and spores on his bed. The bed I burned, the cat got another bath and I endeavoured to keep my plague to myself. With the help of this nifty little torch I have managed to not infect anyone else and am slowly eradicating what remains of the ringworm. Thank you, thank you, Peedar.

Helped us end the territory battle!
We have 2 neutered tom cats. Everything has been bliss until our next doors tom's got old enough to explore the neighbourhood. They sneak into the house (we have a cat flap which opens for our cats microchips, but they somehow sneak through) and mark the area. Our cats have been getting increasingly anxious and unhappy and have been spraying every surface they can.We spent one weekend cleaning the whole house, to get rid of any markings, in the hope that this would stop the cycle. This little device meant we could find the areas marked, clean them, and then check that everything had been cleaned. One of the great things about it, is that you don't have to have a pitch black room, a very slightly darkened room will work (we just drew the curtains). After checking the whole house, we seemed to have stopped the constant markings. We check the house twice a week (there has been a few little issues, but nothing on the scale we had before). This really helped us.In the past we have brought other UV lights, some cheaper and some more expensive. This one was recommended to me by a friend and is definitely the best.WE FINALLY HAVE A PEE FREE HOME! HURRAH!

eh
honestly, once you walk into the house an smell something, just follow the scent and clean up. this adds nothing to your life.it does the job only if you have no light surfaces. for something that takes 3 batteries it really isnt at all bright. it 3.5 inches, its cute and easy to carry, but so is my Maglite, that takes that same number of batteries and it can light up a stage, so im a little disappointed.even when its pitch black, the surface area is not wide and this should be "stronger fluorescence" as they say on the box.if you have a white mattress there is no way you will see anything as everything white will glow. but if you have darker surfaces then it will do the job.
