Is suitable for a 26kg retriver?

I don’t know but good for my 14k Cockapoo. It seems strong.

Do you need a dog harness with this for safety?

Yes , don’t clip it to a collar. If you are in an accident it is a lot of pressure on a dogs neck if clipped to collar and not a harness.

In the picture with the dog the seat belt seems to go to the top of the seat ? So how does this work ?

It literally just clips into the seat belt buckle at the one end and clips onto your dogs collar/harness at the other, simples 😊

I have one of these for my BMW 3 series but it doesn’t work in the middle rear seat?

It's a different catch.......so you don't mix back seat belts up.......use left or right.
