What I did not like is that the book ended. Yup, I typed that out. This book explains vastly better than I can how to confront the LIE that we do not need the LORD, but just "pleasures" to distract us into oblivion and beyond. This should be read by everyone, especially those confused about what it means to be a practicing Christian in an inhospitable world that hides behind being nice and smiles, all the while misleading people off of a cliff of depression and existentialism.

Having read the precursor of this book “From Christian dome to the apostolic age” give a great understanding of modner society’s disdain for religion or even ignorance. Really delves into relativism and provides some tools and ways to provide hope for a future of faith and religion around Christianity.

This book has changed the way I see the world and my place in it. I have a growing list of people I want to send copies to!

Monsignor Shea does a magnificent job outlining the powerful forces working against all of us (regardless of faith or religion) - individualism, minimalism, hedonism, Gnosticism - all bastions of misdirection and confusion. This book helped me understand how far we, as a culture, have fallen away from Christ, me being at some of the furthest depths. I see now why I don’t understand the decisions and actions of many people in my life, but calls me to not criticize, but to model the person Christ wants me to be. Thank you Monsignor Shea, for this beautiful book.

What must we do? This excellent book and its predecessor on Apostolic Mission lay out the problem and the answer.

If you are looking for a handle on how to understand what is happening in modern society....from the Christian perspective....read this. Read the first book as well called From Christendom to Apostolic Age.

Prophetic and succinct in the analysis of “What is going on around here???!!” The only way to holiness is pursuing it ourselves, but so much worrying about politics and society….care about it, sure, but at the end of the day human institutions will always fail. Read the book, feel encouraged and renewed and be converted to Truth in Christ

This is a short book but very powerfully written. It concerns the “gnostic” religions of our time - progressivism that seeks perfection via politics or environmental or social reform. The question is how to live as a Christian in the post-Christian world that mirrors the pagan world in which Christianity was born. It’s short, but it deserves a thoughtful reading.
