One side is slightly (but easy to notice) softer than the other so you can pick, almost fine-tune, to suit your taste.It’s not super thick but being firm this doesn’t matter so much as you’re not losing height by compressing it instantly. It suits me well as I’m a back and side sleeper, so if it were any thicker I’d struggle with back sleeping.The memory foam is responsive, so adjusting your position is always supportive - you won’t be resting on an already flattened pillow, it’ll be as thick as it can be and will ping back into shape quickly.From removing it from the vacuum packed (and rolled) box, it took circa. 12-hours to be at a useable thickness, but it grew slightly more the following day so give it 24-hours if you can. There is a slight smell at first, which would also benefit from a 24-hour period to breathe.Overall I’m very pleased. This replaced a Simba pillow which was an incredibly clever thing and a godsend in the heat, but is way too soft for my taste.
