Replacement Dome Light for Silverado 2009
The old Silverado is starting to show its age and so I decided to replace the rear dome light. In the past I replaced the bulbs a couple of times, but since the dome light main purpose is to provide light when you are carrying a load or when you are hauling something, I hardly ever use it.The new dome light came with a new gasket and it is LED based, so no more replacing bulbs. Note: LED lights become dimmer with age, so you will need to replace them when they become too dim. However this is a dome light, so I doubt it will tend to be used less than your headlights. After I found a trusty Phillips screwdriver, I was able to uninstall the original light. Go slow as these screws are attached to metal clips. The original light had a cracked piece inside already. You just need to disconnect one wiring harness and you should be good. Before installing the new light, I cleaned up the area, to remove the dust. I then sprayed the metal clips and the mounting screws with a bit of silicone spray. This should help with the tightening of the screws. To install, I just made sure the gasket was on correctly on the light and then connected the wiring harness. Careful with tightening the screws. There are directions included with the light, so follow them as far as not overtightening the screws or else you will break the light. The new light looks good and is really bright when I turned the Dome light setting on. My truck was a satellite radio antenna that comes out of the same area as the dome light. This was a very easy upgrade.
