I fish mostly from the bank with weekends on an inflatable raft. This is my first fish sonar and it turned out to be simple to use. Taking note that I need a WiFi connection to the sonar, I made sure my phone was above the height of the sonar to ensure a good connection and all worked well. It is a bit heavy, I used a medium heavy action rod to cast it with and it seemed a bit too much for it. If I continue to cast it, I will definitely get a heavier rod. Otherwise, I am happy with it, actually had it out on the raft over the weekend, the sonar found a school of fish and on my third cast I reeled in a pound and a half largemouth bass. Sweet.

The jury is out on this one. The first one I received only worked once. I followed the directions and on the second outing, no WiFi. Tried charging it again, to reset the device and double check the charge state. Never worked again and never gave the correct charging or connectivity indications. I tried pairing it with two different iOS devices, no joy. Have received a replacement but haven’t had a chance to get it wet yet. Something to note, you may want a spare battery pack or ability to plug in your iOS device, the constant stream smokes the battery. I plugged mine into a solar cell on my skiff, worked fine. Update: The second unit didn’t work either. I was in an indicated 30ft of water with auto range set. I was catching fish with not a single indication on the App. In my experience this is a POS. Just get a traditional fishfinder.

Pretty easy to set up once you figure out the phone WIFI and the Lowrance system. I highly recommend playing around with it in a tub of water before going out into a lake. I spent a couple of hours figuring out a sequence of how to reset my phone WIFI and then connecting to the fish finder (when it was actively transmitting) to sync them together. The method that I found worked best with my LG phone (even though it didn't repeat every time) was to log into the phone app, turn off my land phone WIFI, plug in the charger cord momentarily into the fish finder, remove the cord, put the fish finder into water in the sink , turn on my phone WIFI and connect to the fish finder. This sequence usually worked. When it didn't, then I tried it again and it usually synched. The fun was when I was on the lake and there was no internet where I launched. You MUST have your app past the log in screen while you still have a land wifi signal in order to get to the sonar screens If your app is past the log in screen it doesn't matter if there was an land WIFI signal as the fish finder transmits its unique WIFI signal. I gave it 4 stars because using the phone app log in and getting it to sync should be much cleaner and easy to use. Why do you even need a log in to use the fish finder? Update review 8 Dec 2020 after 6 outings on a lake: I was able to use it only 2 of the 6 outings because the 4 trips I couldn't use it was because I was still trying to log in using different methods after leaving home. I was definitely unable to log in to get to the sonar screen without a land wifi signal. Apparently you MUST have your phone app past the log in screen to use the sonar - so don't log out of the app. My work around solution was to keep the app open when I left home. My phone kept the app settings (past the log in screen) when I did a phone restart. I don't know what will happen if you drain your phone battery though. We may be out of luck. I emailed the Fishhunter -Portable Fish finder/Sonar Lowrance (Navico GoFree) app tech support 12 days ago and no response so far.
