Very different! She's writing in a completely different genre and it needs to be read as such. Also, the characters are of Contemporary Romance age; however, the book reads and feels like a New Adult novel. I cannot stress that enough! If you are not a fan of the New Adult genre, or copious amounts of sex for that matter, you might want to take that into consideration before reading this book.Those of you who read my reviews know that I'm a HUGE Nalini Singh fan. I pretty much love anything she writes. So, when I heard she was writing a ROCK STAR ROMANCE, which I LOVE to read, I was beyond excited and also curious to see how she would tackle a genre she normally doesn't write. For the most part, I think she did a good job!Rock Addiction is your quintessential rock star romance full of sex, drugs (not the hero), and rock n' roll. It features an insta-lust/love connection, a great cast of characters, and an intriguing plot-when it wasn't being taken over by the sex. It also has a New Adult feel where the heroine is a virgin, the hero a manwhore, and the drama takes center stage. I don't mind this as long as the writing is good and not overly dramatic. What this book lacks-THANK GOODNESS-is the over-the-top drama that is so common in the New Adult genre. In fact, the drama in this story made sense to me. I never once had an issue with it.I'll admit I struggled with the beginning of this book, but once the plot moved past the hook-up sex, tacky one-liners, and warp-speed insta-lust/love, I was able to feel the connection between the hero and heroine, Fox and Molly. It was refreshing to read a rock star couple who actually communicated! They openly talked about their concerns, their fears, and their insecurities. Boy, did I love that aspect of the story.Fox is a sexy rock star with an overabundance of arrogance, charisma, and sex appeal. He's not your clichéd rock star that's for sure. He knows what he wants, doesn't play games, communicates, and is one of the most determined and dedicated heroes I've read to date. I felt Singh portrayed the complexities of his rock star persona brilliantly.I know many felt Molly was an annoying heroine but I quite liked her. I understood her reluctance and insecurities regarding Fox's rock star lifestyle. I can't imagine, nor would I want to deal with, the constant media intrusion and rumors, not to mention the groupies. My only problem with Molly, and Fox for that matter, was the beginning and how quickly they jumped into bed together. I didn't admire how easily she gave up her virginity (very clichéd) for a one-night-stand with a Rock God. Frankly, she came across as the typical groupie willing to sell her soul for one night with a rock star, and he came across as a self-indulgent rock star only interested in getting his rocks off. Call me old-fashioned, but I don't find anything sexy or romantic about one-night-stand-sex.That said, I enjoyed the rest of the book, especially the second half, which focused on the problems and challenges inherent in the decadence surrounding the rock star lifestyle. I really admired Fox and Molly's willingness, each in their own way, to do whatever it took to make sure their relationship worked. This was more difficult for Molly in the beginning considering her past, but it didn't take long for her to show strength of character as the storyline progressed and she overcame her fears and insecurities. Fox was just all kinds of awesome right from the start. His devotion and dedication to making their relationship work, as well as helping Molly navigate the land mines resulting from his fame, was what I loved the most about this story. I also like the overall theme: you don't have to be a victim of your past. You have the power to change the course of your life.Although the begin of this book was rocky for me, as I'm NOT a fan of hook-up sex, the story, characters, and romance won me over in the end.One things for sure, Nalini Singh knows how to write a sexy, devoted, and swoonalicious "Rockstar."I very much look forward to reading the rest of this series. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Determined to Dislike It But Won Me Over Completely *by S***M on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on September 9, 2014* I never would have chosen to read ROCK ADDICTION if I hadn’t gotten a free review copy. Each of us have books that we choose to read because we know and trust the author or the blurb on the back appeals to our archetypes or themes or situations we prefer. The rake/wallflower romance, the angst filled storylines, the friends to lovers trope. Then there are those archetypes or themes that we prefer to avoid. This book would not have appealed to me. Hard rocker, heavily tattooed guys are not my thing and nothing else suggested that this would be a keeper for me. Lately, however, I have been trying to expand my reading horizons and when I saw that Nalini Singh, who I have seen mentioned as an author to read, had a new book that could be read as a standalone and when I could get a preview copy for free, I decided to give it a try.THE STORY: Molly Webster is a librarian and fulfills all of the stereotypes of the profession. She lives a blameless and boring life. As a teenager, her family was shattered by her father’s publicized affair with an underage girl and as a result, Molly is determined to live her life out of the limelight of the press. But then she goes to a party her sister is hosting and sees him…Zachary Fox is everything that Molly is determined to stay away from. He is a bad boy rocker with a sexy reputation and a tattooed body. He lives in the light of the press. Fox and Molly have one of those lust at first sight moments and Molly decides to agree to a one-night stand before settling down finally into her quiet life. Fox has other ideas. He is determined not to let Molly go.OPINION: I absolutely loved this book. The story is all about how Molly and Fox learn to live together and trust one another even as they love. It is a personal book delving deep into the give and take of their relationship. Fox falls for Molly quickly and it is he who is determined to not let Molly go. I loved how mature their relationship is. As obstacle after obstacle is tossed in their path, the two talk to one another, admit their fears and faults and build a strong trust between them. There are no magic solutions. The two struggle with their pasts and fears, but are determined that their relationship is more important than anything.This book is super sexy. Hot, hot, hot! Scorching in fact, but there is such a wonderful balance between the sex and the emotional relationship that the sex does not feel gratuitous – even as it is quite plentiful!WORTH MENTIONING: The secondary characters are clearly set up for books of their own. Molly’s half sister and her best friend have romances that are concurrent to this one and I expect will be the subject of the other books in the series.FINAL DECISION: I recommend this book. It was not at all what I expected. The book was complex and the characters were mature and I loved that the book dealt with the working out of their relationship. I will definitely be reading the subsequent books in this series and now I am definitely going to check out Nalini Singh’s other series for which she is well-known.CONNECTED BOOKS: This book is the first book in the Rock Kiss series.STAR RATING: I give this book a 5 star rating which means that it is a definite re-read for me.NOTE: I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley in order to provide an honest review of the book. The opinions I have expressed are my own. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Pleasantly surprised *by K***R on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on April 2, 2019* A pleasant surprise.Molly a shy girl with a harrowing story of bad media publicity bought about by a wayward father.Fox an extremely Male singer in a rock band who is used the publicity and living life behind a lense. With a history of abandonment.The 2 come together for a hot night of passion which extends to a month. Somewhere along the way fox realises that molly should be a more permanent fixture in his life, if she can deal with all of the media attention.A surprisingly sweet story of love. Molly was by far the best character and I lived her exchanges with her best friend Charlotte which made me chuckle.Most of the sex scenes were raunchy and good. However, by the end of the book it got a bit tedious and found myself skipping some of the scenes.I have read similar stories with similar plot lines. The difference with this story was there was no constant declarations of love.
