So, a few things about this disposal:(1) I installed it myself. Instructions were very clear and easy to follow. I’m not super handy with these sorts of projects, but installation was not at all difficult. Hardest part was figuring out how to remove my old unit without a manual. Took approximately 2 hours including a quick trip to the hardware store for a different length of PVC pipe (discharge point is 2” lower than my old unit so needed to replace a small portion of the under sink plumbing)(2) the 1 1/4 HP motor is STRONG. I don’t know what it won’t chop up, but it’s way more heavy duty than a ‘normal’ 3/4 HP or 1HP unit.(3) the magnetic ring as well as the included fairly stiff splash guard works wonders preventing silverware and other small objects from falling down accidentally. With the strong motor, I wouldn’t even consider going without the magnetic ring because whatever falls in will get ground to dust or mangled beyond repair. So prevention is the best solution, and it works better than I expected, although I’m curious how long the magnetic ring will hold up and keep its charge. Time will tell.(4) This unit is quite loud despite coming with noise dampeners. It’s louder than the Kenmore unit it replaced (3/4 HP) even though that unit did not have any noise dampening. It’s a strong motor and spins at 2800 RPM with a large opening at the top. There’s really no way to avoid the noise because Physics. For me this isn’t a negative as I fully expected it, but for those thinking the noise dampening solution will make this (or any other unit) actually quiet... well it doesn’t. It does reduce some vibration and eliminates the need for ear plugs though.(5) 10 year warranty. I doubt I’ll need it, but nice to know it’s there.Conclusion: the best thing I can say about this unit, aside from how powerful it is and how well it actually does it’s job, is that it’s actually a really good value. The installation instructions are so good that I didn’t have to hire a plumber to install it. So saving $150 on labor made this purchase a no-brainer. As long as the increased noise doesn’t become an issue with my other half, I’ll eventually buy another unit to replace my other disposal.

My use of garbage disposals is just for 2 adults and soft foods with the exception of chicken bones every now and again. I have been purchasing cheaper disposals and they don’t wear out but they do rust out and then leak into the motor. I decided this time to look for something that would last longer and was made from stainless Steel. Instillation was no problem as I have done this many times. I use a small scissor jack to center and lift the disposal into position to engage the locking ring. I was amazed at how quite this unit is and it is very powerful compared to mostly the 3/4 HP disposals that I have had in the past. It seems well made but I did notice that like many disposals it does not have an unjam key or place to use one on the bottom of the disposal. Perhaps with the 1 1/4 HP motor it will never be needed and if it does jam the very effective splash guard can be easily removed for full access to the grinding chamber. My previous disposals the splash guard could only be removed or replaced by removing the disposal itself. If I do have any trouble with this rather expensive disposal in the future I will post the problem here.

This is used in our lunchroom at work which shares a wall with an office and it is remarkably quiet.
