Simple, reliable, and built to last
This Salter mechanical kitchen scale has a classic charm with modern practicality. The large dial is easy to read at a glance, and the 5kg capacity makes it perfect for everything from baking ingredients to meal prep. No batteries required — just set it on the counter and go. The included 1-litre bowl is lightweight, dishwasher safe, and sits securely on top of the scale. It’s easy to tare and reset, and the scale feels sturdy and well-balanced. At 22cm tall, it doesn’t take up much counter space and stores neatly in a cupboard. If you prefer analogue simplicity over digital fuss, this is a great scale — accurate, dependable, and stylish in a timeless black finish.

Perfect scales. Not too large, look great on my Kitchen worktop. Love the colour perfect for weighing out ingredients. Delighted with my purchase. Salter is an excellent make and I highly recommend these timeless mechanical kitchen scales.

Great smart and useful scales.
These scales are very smart and are easy to adjust. The metal pan is a very useful shape, as it prevents spills. The scales are quite small, therefore, not taking up lots of room in the kitchen. I love the subtle green. Colour. The dial is easy to read and they wipe clean without much effort.

Inaccurate
My grandmother's balance scales which I inherited only weigh up to 2lbs (1kg). I thought these scales would be useful as they are calibrated up to 11lbs (5kg). They look lovely, don't take up as much space as the old balance scales, and the sage green colour is perfect for my kitchen. Salter is a well known and trusted brand. What could possibly go wrong? Well firstly - the bowl is very wobbly. The support doesn't appear to be damaged, it just doesn't fit the bowl properly. I could go to the DIY shop and buy some non-slip pads for two of the "arms" to correct that, though I shouldn't have to. But far worse - the scales are not accurate. (See photos and video.) My 500g weight from the balance scales moves the pointer from zero to 550g. I can set the pointer to minus 25g, and my weight then registers exactly 500g. I wondered if my modern metric weight set was inaccurate, so tried my grandmother's imperial weights. 1lb registered 1lb 2oz. So it is the Salter scales which are at fault, not the weights (which were made a century apart!). Beyond 500g, the scale seems accurate - at least up to 2lbs, beyond which I cannot test it. But how am I supposed to weigh amounts between 0g and 500g? And can I trust the accuracy between 2lbs / 1kg and 11lbs / 5kg ??? Such a disappointment. From this brand and at this price, I would have expected better.

This is not an EASY READ set of scales
This may look pretty but it's NOT easy read. Obviously the fact that the scale goes up to 5kg was in the product description when I bought it - my bad on that front - but I underestimated the impact it would have on the overall product design. I didn't think this through - so I'm here to make sure you do!! 5kg is a lot. It's the equivalent of five bags of sugar - and I'm pretty sure that the bowl that comes with the scales is not big enough to contain that amount of loose ingredients, though I've not tested it given that I've never wanted to bake anything so enormous! However the main issue is that because the scale on the dial covers such a large capacity, the space between the lines is tiny. So tiny that it's really hard to read with any accuracy (even with my glasses on!) how much is in the bowl. Unless you have the eyesight of a hawk, you're happy to use A LOT of concentration to weigh things, or you cook with rough approximations, I'd avoid.
