Dr. Barnard also offers thorough explanations about the scientific relationship between nutrition and diabetes, and identifies the ingredients in the book by their vitamins, nutritional properties, and health power in a simple and easy to understand way. Dr. Neal Barnardโs Cookbook for Reversing Diabetes is a treasury of meals that are as tasty as they are powerful for health. Review: Reversing Diabetes - For many, many years, any time I had my glucose levels taken, they were as high as they could be and still be normal. Then one year they were slightly higher than normal and my cholesterol levels were also slightly high. My doctor wasn't overly concerned but said that he was going to order a glucose tolerance test the next time I had testing done and that if everything was still high that he would put me on cholesterol medicine because "diabetics are more prone to having heart issues". I hadn't been diagnosed as a diabetic, nor was I technically pre-diabetic. But, I wanted to be proactive and did a search for a vegan diabetic cookbook and this popped up. I already had one of Dr. Barnard's cookbooks and knew I was a fan of some of his recipes already so I ordered it. To be honest, I wasn't seeing a change in my glucose numbers - and didn't for a long time (and I don't think it was related to this cookbook when they did go down), but I absolutely loved the recipes in the book! I have a lot of cookbooks but this one is truly one of my favorites. I recommended it to my niece (and she bought it) when she was diagnosed as being pre-diabetic and she has raved over many of the recipes as well. I love this book and would highly recommend it to anyone! Review: Best cookbook EVER!!! - I recently got diagnosed with gestational Diabetes and the highs and lows from the traditional diabetes diet were making me light-headed, tired, and other bad side-effects evolved. My doctor said I needed to consider meds to get my levels down. So, I researched and found this book and the other one by Barnard. In a week, I have amazing energy levels, my blood sugar is leveling out, and all the bad feelings of pregnancy have left. I feel fantastic! Itโs even better that I can make these delicious recipes. So far, Iโve made the Muesli, steel-cut oats, cinnamon wisp pancakes, essential hummus, power lunch bowl, Thai corn and sweet potato stew, marinara sauce, marinara pasta with artichokes and olives, mighty mushroom burgers, lentil mushroom taco mix, Rad Thai, tamari tofu, broiled asparagus, oatmeal chippers and apple crisp. Every recipe is amazing!! My entire family has been eating it and they love it and so do I. We are thinking about making this a life change. I highly recommend this book. Even as a cookbook without considering the health goals, itโs fantastic. I hope they make a sequel.

Reversing Diabetes
For many, many years, any time I had my glucose levels taken, they were as high as they could be and still be normal. Good Cookbook
Good cookbook but not for me. I also have serious GI problems so highly spiced, exotic recipes were not what I was looking for.

Buy this now! awesome recipes.
Such a great cookbook. I'm a big fan of Dreena Burton's recipes and these are fantastic as usual. The first three chapters are very concise and provide valuable up to date information from Dr. Barnard that you can arm yourself with when people question your eating choices. The recipes are delicious. We tried the "scuffins" this morning and my whole family loved them. The recipes do take time to prepare but that is part of eating whole, unprocessed foods. It's worth investing the time for better health. Definitely pick up this book and Dreena's other cookbook Let Them Eat Vegan. It's my favorite.

Great tool for a more healthful lifestyle.
This cookbook far exceeded my expectations. I am not diabetic but it runs in my family and my sugars have been high so I know I am at risk. I bought this cookbook because I really enjoy Dreena's other cookbooks. Since this book arrived in the mail I have cooked from it everyday and have absolutely loved every recipe that I have made. Even my newly vegetarian partner (who is super picky about vegetables) has loved almost everything. He isn't a fan of sweet potatoes or soup in general but has loved all the recipes in here. I also like that most if not all of the recipies are GF or have a GF option as one of my children is allergic to wheat. Dreena is always great at dealing with food allergies and sensitivities. My favorites have been the Rad Thai, Scalloped Potato Duo,Thai Corn and Sweet Potato Stew and the Orange Tofu. I was very hesitant to try the orange tofu because it is marinated and baked and I really prefer my tofu dry fried in a cast iron but this recipe is top notch. If you are debating on getting this cookbook do it now, you won't regret it. This cookbook is a great tool to a more healthful lifestyle.

Great thought
First, I got the book and found that I have Type 2 diabetes but can not have at least half of the ingredients listed in the recipes. That is crazy. Second, buyer beware apparently they may know that first fact as when you try to return the book the ad/description is a lie. It claims free returns yet when I try to return the book they charge $7 to do it. I am not sure if Amazon is not reading their own stuff or if it is the Book seller. No matter if you cannot walk the talk you should not put details like that out there. The book sells for almost $20 and then to lose $7 to return---rip off.

reversed my prediabetes and high blood pressure issues
this is a good read if you want to learn how to change your life and stop / manage your health. I hate medications and I know I can choose live and eat and do things more healthy and cost less! this is educational and informs you of possible reasons why our body reacts the way it does. tested my AM blood sugar and it registered 256. we have diabetes in both mother and father family lines. so not a shocker that I have a high blood sugar count but at 40 .. too early for me to be chained to bottles of different pills. I followed this book with some modifications,EXERCISED and changed my count within one month. now im back to normal. Please try, better now than later.

Whole Food Plant Based recipes that truly flavorful!
Our family is a Whole Food Plant Based family. I am married to a family physician who teaches his patients about this life saving eating lifestyle. We are always on the lookout for GOOD recipes to share with patients. Dreena Burton has done a fantastic job creating recipes for this cookbook for Dr Barnard. I have tried a number of these recipes. This is a 5 star choice. (Plant Based Families is also an excellent choice) This cookbook however is better for those who are avoiding oils that are not in their original packaging ( i.e. choosing to eat olives in preference to olive oil or whole nuts instead of nut oils.) The recipes I have tried and really enjoyed are: Lentil Minestrone - sturdy stew-like. Pizza, Pizza - delicious; Orange Tofu - easy and fabulous with the Coconut Rice and Broiled Asparagus; Rad Thai! - over the top good. I used Barilla thin spaghetti with it. Soft-Baked Tamari Tofu - YES; - I press it first in a press, dice into 1/2" cubes and toss in the tamari. Jamaican Stew - great! I used sweet potatoes instead of plantain. The Thai Corn and Sweet Potato Stew is fantastic. I served it with brown rice on the side. If I double it I will use 1/2 tofu and 1/2 black beans. Twice the tofu would be too much and the beans would add to it already amazing rainbow of colors. Wow.

Not just for diabetics.
My favourite cookbook! Everything that I've made out of it, so far, has turned out so good! I'm addicted to the Tu-no salad and whip it up frequently now. If you've been diagnosed with diabetes, this book is a gem and is sure to get you back on track. If, like me, you're not diabetic and don't ever want it to develop, this is your key to prevention. Special thanks to Dreena Burton for the tastiest recipes that will keep me, and my family, healthy for a long time.
