A good read
This is a new author to me and I am impressed. The main character is a female PI working, not in exotic locations in America, but in and around Manchester. The conclusion of the investigation seemed obvious from early in the book, but this did not detract from a curiosity to discover just how the case proceeded. This is the sort of book to read on holiday and refreshingly does not revolve around a main character with ' angst and issues' which seem more important than the story itself. As readable as Agatha Christie and set in our own country.

Red hot read
This was my first Sal Kilkenny mystery and it's a tribute to the writing that it makes an excellent stand-alone read. I liked the juxtaposition of the domestic with the professional. The gradual build up of the race hate crime to its horrendous and gut-wrenching climax was well paced and moving - it had me in tears which is no mean feat as I've been editing fiction for many years. I have read three of Cath Staincliffe's novels now, each very different, and have become a firm fan and would recommend.

Feisty Female Investigator
I like Cath Staincliffes books as I find her main character very good. Most women can relate to her problems in trying to juggle childcare and work, never mind a social life. The stories are also interesting and are well thought out and presented.

Consistently good reads- A safe holiday choice
I have thoroughly enjoyed all the Sal Kilkenny books - and this is no exception. I really like the way the author weaves in the everyday aspects of life- being a single mum, having to think of meals, trying to stay fit around what are always fairly tight plot lines which keep up a good pace. Her work as a private detective has plausibility -in this case finding a missing person and working for the council observing anti-social behaviour on a housing estate.

Enjoyable read
Good to read a story not dependent upon sex or detailed violence. An interesting main character who has problems but concerned for her clients.

Thoroughly enjoyable
A great book, which I couldn't put down - it rattled along and engaged me at every stage. The characters are clever and there is some wit. I'm familiar with the areas of Manchester that are written about, so I like that aspect too. I was only sorry that it wasn't a longer book - not a criticism, I just wanted to keep reading.
