Very pleased - Worked straight out of the box
This worked straightaway and did the job I wanted which was detecting how a wall was drying out following a leak in our roof.

Good product
I've been using this to test the moisture on some oak I'm drying and it's working great.Very impressed given the cheap price. It's giving the same reading as my friends much more expensive meter which is impressive.

Works much better than I expected
I have a very old house and have experienced a few leaks so was very keen to try this moisture tester. It comes with batteries so I popped them in, read the instructions and tested the meter out on all my walls. It just needs to be placed flat against them and doesn't leave marks. Most of my walls had low readings and the area I was worried about was fine but the meter goes into the red at the front of my house by my windows and a few of the chimneys have raised levels too, some worrying spikes in one room. I am inclined to believe that it is pretty accurate. It's given me very helpful pointers as to areas to investigate and it does pick up elevated moisture levels where I know there is a leak (I have a persistent one in my eaves I can't find the source for on the roof) so overall I am very happy with this moisture detector. It's easy to use and works well, seems like excellent value.

Didn't know what to expect but nicely surprised
I am handy at DIY but I will happily admit that I am not an expert, and gauging damp is certainly an area I am not an expert in.This meter arrives well packaged in a cardboard box with a case, batteries, instructions and a silky fabric 'case'.Switching on is as easy as pressing the centre power button, the device will turn on and show a reading of 0.0 in the wall setting. The display is large and clear and is remarkably easy to use. This works simply by pressing the back of the machine against the surface to be tested. The left 'Set' button is for setting the level that it will alarm for you (a repeating beep) and the value can be changed by the other buttons.Top button 'Den' is for when you are in wood setting and you can cycle through different wood densities to get a more accurate reading.Right button 'Hold' is to for just that - you press it and it holds the current reading until you press it again, handy if you need to hold the device high up and can't see the reading properly. The bottom 'Mode' button is for cycling through the modes of operation Wall, Masonry, Soft Wood, Hard Wood.In use, as can be seen in the photos, the display is easily readable. The readings are instant and in order they are. Held in the air, against 3 month old fresh plaster (undecorated), same age fresh plaster (painted), a wall I know suffered a roof leak a week ago, the saame wall lower down where the water didn't reach. I can also assure you that my hand contains moisture and my epoxy table is moisture free. The LCD display shows the mode, % of moisture detected and a colourful bar meter to give a visual effect if you can't see the numbers.I don't know how this works so I will say it's run by magic. I also don't know if the sensor tech it uses hold any kind of candle against the traditional probe moisture detectors that are quite often used.In my opinion this seems to work really well, I cannot say if it would be any use for professional but it is more than sufficient for my meagre needs. At £23.99 less 15% voucher at the time of this review this seems to be decent value against many other moisture meters. Well made, visually pleasing - this is a decent buy.

Fast consistent results
Not only do you get a material bag to keep the meter in you also get batteries which is nice.Having installed a set of 3 AAA batteries I turned the meter on. You have various surface types (Modes) that you can select, Wall/Masonry/Soft Wood/Hard Wood. On the soft wood mode there are different wood densities 1-9 you can select, depending on the type of wood. There is a table of wood types/densities in the instruction booklet provided.Although there are clear instructions for wood, I wasn’t sure what setting to use when testing my house walls, should it be wall or masonry? Both worked, with the masonry setting giving slightly higher readings.I was impressed with how quickly the meter came back with a reading, basically as soon as it touched a surface. In the instructions it mentions that if testing an area where there are wires or pipes underneath the moisture level will increase a little as these attract moisture. This proved true, so potentially you could use this meter to identify the location of pipes and wires in the wall.I carried out the following additional tests:• Returning to the same spot on a wall to see if the moisture level displayed remained constant. It did• Testing areas on outside house wall. It did pick up variances and which was particularly noticeable when testing above and below the damp membrane. Worked as expected.• Tested it on different surfaces, using different modes. Results were as expected, shed wood damper than internal wood etc.• I set an alarm to sound when moisture levels went over 4%. This worked, it alarmed when over, not when under.Having gone around my house testing walls I am please to say I haven’t found any damp issues, the highest internal reading (masonry mode) I registered was 7.1% above a windowsill (the head). I like the meter, its easy to use and gives fast consistent readings as well as being non-destructive.

Not sure how accurate it is, but it seems to display sensible values.
I'm using this for woodworking to check whether a wood blank I made from a freshly cut tree is dry enough to be worked on.The moisture content values this device displays make sense when I measure known wet or known dry piece of wood, so I tend to believe the values it displays that are in between "green" and "dry".Very happy with this moisture meter.

Excellent For Comparing Moisture Levels
Pros - Easy to use for basic moisture readings - Well written instructions - handy storage bagCons - sensor side scratches easilyThis moisture meter is designed to measure relative moisture in walls and masonry, and also measure accurate moisture levels in wood. I don't have any real use for measuring the moisture level in wood. I do have a need to check relative moisture levels in walls and other surfaces. It works much like a stud finder - you turn it on and place it against the wall/surface and it displays the moisture reading. You can get readings in different spots to determine if the moisture is higher or lower. Be aware that in wall/masonry mode, studs, pipes, and wires will cause higher readings. The instructions explain this. I have used it to determine the extent of moisture damage from water leaks. It was also useful to verify that a spot on the ceiling (caused by a roof leak) was actually dry and ready to be painted. If you are looking for an accurate moisture level in various types of wood, this meter will accomplish that. Setup is more involved but not complicated. The instructions are well written and straight-forward. In terms of accuracy, I have no way to determine accuracy of the measurements. One word of caution: the sensor side of the meter is easily scratched. I slid the meter across the wall and ceiling in three areas and was shocked when I noticed how scratched up the sensor and bottom were! I highly recommend NOT SLIDING the meter across a surface. Instead, press it against the surface, lift it, move to another spot and press it against the surface again. I suspect scratching up the sensor will damage it and/or cause poor readings.Overall, it's a very handy device at a great price!

For those who live in the Canadian wilderness, one word: firewood
My new Neoteck pinless wood moisture meter is now one key part of a multi-accessory operation in the creation, storage and management of the absolutely essential large volume of firewood I must each fall ultimately bring inside my screened-in porch to keep me warm for a full six months of every year.Thankfully, this product is comprehensively presented from the factory, arriving in a protective padded zippered pouch with a good nylon loop for hanging up and for holding onto when transporting. Three AAA batteries are included thankfully for initial set up and use.The Neoteck unit is beautifully designed and is equipped with a pair of rubber side grips on each flank of the unit to give it an excellent feel in the hand, and to protect it against bumps when out in the field, or in use on the job site or at the lumber yard. Further attention to detail includes the supply of a small Phillips head screwdriver (with magnetized tip) to remove the battery case cover – the small, otherwise easy-to-lose battery cover retaining screw stays secure enough on the tip of the supplied screwdriver to prevent fumbling and losing the screw – a nice touch. Clearly, these are the opening examples of a well-thought-out and executed product. When powered up, the Neoteck screen is full colour and high-quality, it looks like an Apple smart watch in it’s degree of screen graphics resolution.Toggling between drywall, masonry, soft wood and hardwood is accomplished with a simple click of one's thumb. You see displayed your ambient temperature and relative humidity, wherever you happen to be at that moment, whether it’s inside the main rooms of your house, in your basement, or outdoors where your wood may be drying. This feedback is critical in giving you a sense of anticipated relative drying times for certain jobs..To best maintain longevity of this excellent tool, it is suggested that the AAA batteries be removed from inside the unit when not in use for any extended period of time. The graphic user interface has both analogue scale and digital scale, giving you two representations of the dryness of the material you are testing, and you can toggle between metric and imperial values pending on your preference. The product, judging by these various high-quality elements, appears to be very precise. My greatest interest in this product is to be able to split and stack my firewood outdoors in various drying locations, and determine which location is best drying the specific batches of firewood week over week, and to be able to gauge just how many weeks / months, or in fact years, I need to season my various batches of firewood before its deemed suitable for use. This is going to be a game-changer in my wood firewood operation that I depend on exclusively for my winter heat. Now I have the capability to accurately gauge the varying degrees of moisture within my various firewood stacks. I can now add this Neoteck Moisture Meter to my assembly of chainsaws, axes, mauls,”og-turning Peavey tool, files, log vise, hearing protection, gloves, tarps, and all the other bits of kit I called upon to make and manage my own firewood. This Neoteck Pinless Moisture Meter tool is now really the brains behind the whole operation, and with it, I am now the moisture master. If you bring in firewood for the winter that has too much moisture in it, it’s going to make your long Canadian winter life more difficult. This unit completely takes the guesswork out of that process of firewood moisture assessment. Now I am in control like a pro!!Yes, this unit will be called into action when I am selecting and purchasing lumber for new building projects, assessing pine flooring and other hardwoods that must be dry to a certain degree before installation (to leave out this important moisture-reading step is to risk having your work start to cup and warp after installation, which I have recently seen a tradesman do on a friend’s flooring installation in a specific room, using too-moist 1.5” pine flooring planks that some months after installation, as the now-installed flooring planks more thoroughly dried out, started to cup and twist and had to be completely removed and the flooring installation redone). Yes this Neoteck moisture reader will be used to judge the degee of dry-readiness of drywall compound for sanding and painting jobs…But my most necessary application for the Neoteck Moisture Meter is for accurate management of my all-important firewood. And also, if there comes a fall season where I have not had the time or energy to prepare a winter’s worth of firewood, and I’m going to purchase delivered firewood from a supplier, there is no substitute for being able to immediately place a moisture metre onto the quite-expensive load of delivered firewood to see how actually cured and seasoned the purchased firewood is. For a winter’s worth of firewood can easily run you well over $1000 in my region.Gone now for me is wood moisture guesswork. if working with wood is a constant in your life, this is a required device.
