Thermometer fogged up and cannot be read
Put the thermometer in and after a day the screen fogged up and will not clear.

It does well at what a thermometer is supposed to do
This is a very basic soil thermometer. Although designed primarily for worm farming, I use it for basic lawn management. For example, in the spring when the ground temp reaches 55 degrees, I know it's time to apply a preemergent to stop weeds from blooming.The thermometer is easy to read, and the accuracy seems to correspond with other thermometers I have around the area. It is fairly rugged so it should last a long time. It has a small rubber cap on the end to cover the tip when not in use.

Broke first time when I inserted it into the soil
Broke first time when I inserted it into the soil, when I pulled it up the probe dislocated - too bad I didn't try it while I could return it so now I'm stuck with a broken expensive trinket. It looked like it's working fine, but why so flimsy :(

Solid soil thermometer
Out of the box the soil thermometer seems to be good quality and working. Home air temp is 70 and the thermometer is reading 70. It was wrapped in double bubble wrap and boxed. Amazon packed it in their paper bag but the box was not bent or damaged. I will be using this to check soil temperatures for fertilizer applications. Happy with my purchase.
